It is important to assess the viability of fixing other damage when the primary cause has been found. Sorin most probably went back to this burned board just to identify 'downstream' damage from a fried CPU.

You need to measure from Vin to the SW leg, not from Vin to GND on the DRMOS, always, because a high side short is only from vin to SW shorted, not to GND!
@larrywildman43819 ай бұрын
You should have tested the cpu with the bench PSU .... so, al least, you confirm is dead. In this case, clearly, 12v got to the cpu. But it's not true that this is always the case if high mosfet get shorted .... because before the cpu there is a big coil .... if the management chip can cut the power very quickly, voltage on the cpu can still be in the tollerable range. Of course, with burn tracks like this one, power was not cut off quickly, so cu is dead.

I did not understand why people were saying that you should not plug in the charger before checking for faults and even now still believing this is not a 100% right because the users must have tried it many times before it got to you for repair because I don't think any manual would say that if your device is not running just take it to the repair shop and never try troubleshooting because they would want you to buy a new device instead! I mean I still believe if the cpu is gone then it's 99% gone already from where it came to you! which means the power supply method is still very valid and effective from my point of view!!! but why the hell are they making these bga cpus or not make some built in voltage limit features instead??????

For £40/mobo repair it needs to be easy because that isn't gonna get more than half an hour of my repair time. I normally work on an hourly rate as opposed to a rate "per repair" though. People either accept my charge or don't accept it and most realise you can't work for free even if they want you to🤣🤣

Hi Sorin, I have big doubt. You always plug the charger before test short circuit or Impedance, so If the laptop had came with shorted mosfet, 19V directly go to the relevant section and it will burn. Please explain??? Am i wrong?
