That fault was my very first electronic repair on my TV about 3 years ago. I had absolutely no idea about what I was doing ( I have little better understanding now thanks to Sorin) and I successfully replaced the diode after a few trials and errors and got an extra 2 years out of that TV. I let you imagine (or remember) how satisfied I was when I plugged the TV back and it worked. I was the king of the world! two years later the same fault occurred, replaced the diode and.....cracked the screen putting it back together. That TV is now my testing / practice / donor board. It has a special place in my heart...I mean experience.

You should not just bridge out the faulty LED on the light bar like you suggested. Yes it will work for some time but If you bridge out the faulty LED you will put additional stress on the remaining LED's and they will blow also. I have fixed several LED strips and its easy to replace an individual LED once you take the screen apart. I use a small heat plate and heat the strip from beneath to remove and replace the faulty LED. Its a time consuming process but that's the correct way to fix the issue or replace the complete bar. The other thing to do is turn down the back light to about 50-70% as that will extend the life of those LED strips.The manufactures push the LED strips to their limits when the back light is cranked up to 100% and that will shorten the life of those strips. The LED strips are failing even on TV's that are within their warranty period due to the excessive stress on the back light LED's.

If the LEDs are in series and they are constant current driven, short one LED should not modify the others because the LED driver should try keep the same constant current, so theoretically it will lower the voltage.

@KB1UIF
@KB1UIF Жыл бұрын
@@neteinfo9111 I agree with your theory, however if that is the case why do I find strips with multiple leds that have failed. Some go short some go open. I believe the less stress you can put the led strips under the better. The other reason why not to short out a faulty led is you will end up with a dark patch on the screen. Don't bodge the repair, replace any faulty LEDs they cost pennies.

Sorin myr friend, thanks again for making us learn even more. Can you please detail your trace routing how you reached that small smd transistor and how you realized if you bridged the transistor the set will overpass the protection ?.
@electronicsrepairschool
@electronicsrepairschool 6 жыл бұрын
you can see there, one pin from relay goes to plus and the other goes to the smd transistor and also to a optocoupler. Thats mean if you short the relay only, will be not enough coz the smd transistor will shutdown the power supply anyway. So i bridged the transistor, in this way the relay is on all the time and optocoupler aswell

Great video.....I have a Samsung 75" Q70R and it went black screen while watching a movie, it flashed blue every 20 seconds, I have some knowledge in electronics so I opened it to see if it had bad capacitors. With the TV energized, I disconnected the ribon cable that goes to the main board and the screen turned blue, so I assumed it was not the damaged screen, I have been looking on ebay and I have found the original power supply parts, do you think that replacing the board will solve the problem?...thanks
@juarezcastelo
@juarezcastelo Жыл бұрын
I used to repair that kind of problem, I agree it's expensive if you do it the proper way, even without, because handling the LCD part of the TV is one of the most delicate things you do in electronics, even with all that, I used to charge around 500 pesos here in Mexico, that is 20 pounds, or 25 USD. If you are careful handling the display, the rest is easy, but is also time consuming, I think that's the main reason in this particular case it will be expensive to repair.

PS: 93% of the flats made, have the LED backlight voltages purposely over driven (too much voltage)....WHY??? Because LED's practically last forever compared to incandescent lighting, Hence, that new Vizio 65" 4k might last you 12-17 years if we keep the LED voltages to spec (3.4vdc or sometimes 6vdc per LED), and OH Hellz to the NO, We'll make sure your buying another TV in 2 to 3 years after warranty expires. _" So overdrive the LED warp engines Mr Scott..Warp Factor 6"_ Want a quick, no cost, done by remote way to add 5-7 years more to that 4K 70" behemoth?? Simply go into your TV's menu via remote, and go to your picture settings and turn down the backlight from "100" (Factory default) to about 50-60, You'll probably won't even see the difference, but all those little light emitting diodes will, by about 1.8 - 2.1 vdc...and they will thank you for it by shining on for another dozen seasons of _"Game of Walking Dead Thrones Breaking Bad on 911"_ ...or whatever your fav shlok slop tv idiot-box show of choice currently is....

This is not the correct way to repair this issue. The LED should be replaced. They cost pennies. If you dont replace the LED, there will be a patch of darkness on the screen, and the remaining LEDs will fail quicker, too. Also, in electronics and TV repair since 1974. Remember to back the brightness off a few notches, too, after the fix. That's what blows them in the first place.
