Also look first for the main power rail(19.5), then standby 5.0 and 3.3 v. That will save a lot of time for diagnostics.

brilliant diagnostic skills as usual
@anzejarni3 ай бұрын
They should put a led on each power rail and connect the grounds of the leds via a solder bridge, which would be unsoldered when new. This way the leds wouldn't be using any power, but when diagnosing you would just solder that bridge and immediately see which rail is missing.

Question - how can that little water damage cause shorted capacitor? Especially that big one. What is the causal mechanism? Oxidation buildup physically damages ceramics? My first guess would be that cap itself was ok, but short was right under it? But yeah, Ive seen that water damage can do some whack things. Btw, you know what's much worse than water damage? Cat pee damage...
capacitor was shorted , but when checking coils there was not short how??

Had such kind of defect last week...with one of my laptops.... During playing a game.. Suddenly shut down Check the supply = ok, but when enter the plug into laptop...from 19 V get down to 2 V... I said... Hmmm somewhere is a short... The Supply Mosfets were hot... Means were good Internal supplies of the main board looks in short but who was... In short... Put some alcohol on an small cloth and just touch the capacitors, to have alcohol on them. Supply then again... On one capacitor... The alcohol get fast dissappear... Took it out and no more short😅😅😅... An 104 capacitor Replace another 3 as well and few 100 micro electrolitic ones.. For safety My wrack still works after 😅 Le : seems like this defect is quite... Changed everything except the main board ( which I had the issue described before) and the covers. 4 displays changed, Dvd writter, keyboard, AC adapter... Sometimes I am wondering... Who"s next 😅 I play games on it but is getting hot like on oven.... The fan blow continue = AMD processor like a hair dryer 😅 Is working but is apart of history. Last display I had repair it as well, the light has gone suddenly The thermo paste new on the processor sink, all clean and clear but it is an oven when I play games Funny is that I have other laptops as DELL 5547 and 3520 ( 1TB SSD, 16 gb Ram etc) but this TJ74 I have it in my heart 😂 Even my wife told me to dispose the TJ...
