Useful but expensive tool - I have mine now since a few months: In most of the times after I tried to recalibrate the old battery, I had to exchange it with a new compatibel one - and one needs to be careful which brand to choose. To repair (cell exchange) is a no go in western (i.e. hight labour costs) countries. No doubt its excellent technology - so I spent the money to exclude a battery defect if a laptop or charging shows issues. No argues about the technical value of the device and the efforts and high skills of its inventor - but in high labour costs countries its obvious that one can´t regain its price. (You might buy it for service reasons if you can/want afford it.) Yes, it makes sense in other countries (low labour costs) were one can operate in a niche market to "repair" and recell old batteries.

There are many different types of battery defects. We have a lot of customers in the USA, Germany, Uk where labor costs are high. They are not replacing the cells, they are repairing in 3 clicks those batteries that are just over discharged (stored for a long period). There are companies that have thousands of new Genuine batteries just over discharged, paying 269$ for 1 year worth to repair them ? No need to open the battery, no need to replace the cells. Seems pretty pointless ngl. It's still like $300 on their website and even if it was $75, why spend $75 plus the price of a new battery when you can just buy a new battery and be done with the repair. 99% of battery problems are a dead or unbalanced cell, not a controller problem. You can jump the battery with a power supply if you really wanted to be cheap and cause more damage via expanding cells or fire, or just replace it with a good battery for $25-40. Not to mention that bypassing a battery lockout like that will land you in deep legal trouble if you hand it back to a customer like that and it causes any damage. No amount of liability waiver will help you in that case, because you're intentionally, and knowingly bypassing a safety device. Not that I'm saying there's a significantly higher risk of issues by doing this, just that all batteries that exist, even brand new ones, have a risk of igniting or exploding. By bypassing their lockout, you are now absorbing all liability if that happens. The new battery might explode as well, but you as a business have done your due diligence and are absolved of liability.

I will never buy hardware that i need to also have a subscriptiin to. They can go jump no matter how good it is. I teach my kids that and try educate everybody else...i am also dissapointed with your $70/year how good statement. Thats a 10 year upfront investment and either way still a subscription service... They can change the features or capabilities or not introduce support for new chips/ batteries in future..

Of course not - it's made by a fellow Romanian - it's given in payment of the "free" advertising. Maybe that's why Sorin has his revenue limited? KZbin are not silly, after all. It makes sense that they wouldn't explain the real reason, that way it cannot be easily fixed, and KZbin retain more profit?

For such an expensive bit of kit, it looks like a DIY home made device. The subscription model (added to this) puts me off. The fact it is locked to a single device is also off putting. Then you have to question the device accuracy. How do we know the readings are accurate, and, can it be checked (calibrated) as is possible with other high cost devices to ensure your expensive 'battery tester' is giving accurate readings? There are some comments from the device manufacturer saying "If Fluke bought it they would charge $9000". That is speculative. Firstly, Fluke would not buy it, they would re-invent it, secondly, selling a product which looks like a home made device with dated looking software, then basing the price on the basis Fluke 'could' buy it is not realistic and somewhat comical. Serioulsy, it looks good, but if the design, marketting and pricing is anythign to go by, i'll skip it.

@nipembedded9976 I'm sure you invested plenty of time to develop such a great device, as far as i know there is no competitor who offers this variety of functions. Is this device as well suitable for electric bicycle and vacuum batteries? This is an even bigger market than laptop batteries. Thank you and best regards Michael
@nipembedded9976 Жыл бұрын
For the moment only laptop batteries and DJI drone batteries. Also some vacuum cleaners batteries, some printer batteries, any other battery that is using up to 1-4s gas gauge chip.
