I just researched it and I'm finding that some states and prisons have one way while others do not. I couldn't find a specific list of which states, but one article about an execution in Alabama makes a light reference to a one way mirror. Whether they made that assumption or did their own research I do not know.

If you mean lighting hitting a generator and stopping an execution, no, not that I am aware of. There have been executions that were botched for various reasons, including human error. The best example is the execution of Willie Francis. He is the only person to survive the chair. (He was successfully executed about a year later). The book "The Execution of Willie Francis" is fascinating.

An other B.S. totally unrealistic movie showing an execution. Protocol is that the prisoner is taken off death row and moved to a cell in the death house at least 48 hours before the scheduled execution. He or she is kept under constant watch by a guard and a log is kept of the prisoner's every activity, any phone calls, any visitors, when and what he eats, when he sleeps.

mainly to spare the witnesses from having to watch the facial expressions made by the condemned. Sometimes, the eyeballs might pop out. During George Stinney's execution in SC, the mask came off because he was so small and everyone had to see his face. the post execution pictures of Allen "Tiny" Davis are pretty nasty and after looking at the ones where the mask and facial strap are off, I can say for sure that I would never want to watch an electrocution without the prisoner wearing a mask, and in fact, I never want to see one period.
