In the 1930's, in Pittsburgh, a streetcar conductor was tried and sentenced to death for killing three passengers for not having the correct fare! They tried to electrocute him three times with no success so he had to be freed, In a newspaper interview, he was asked why he thought they weren't able to execute him and he said, "Everybody knows I was a poor conductor."

The first electric chair execution (of William Kemmler) in 1890 in NY was botched. The day before, a horse hadsuccessfully been killed in a test. But 1000 volts did not do the job on Kemmler. They raised the voltage to 2000 volts, which worked, but resulted in an awful stench. Lets face it, the best way to execute somebody is to fire a.50 BMG round into the back of the head. Lights out, fast and painless.

@@Seamus322 And that's why they don't like firing squads. The Left wants execution, if it's necessary, which they don't think it is, wants execution to be sterile, bloodless, and more like a medical procedure. I think public hanging should be brought back. Depending on the crime, death by hanging or hanging until dead. It would give a clear message; Commit a capital crime, and the world will watch you dance on the end of a rope.

I personally knew someone while living in Texas that worked for T. D. C. (Texas Department of Corrections) now called T. D. C. J. (Texas Department of Criminal Justice) that was assigned, by his own request, to help execute inmates in the then used electric chair. He enjoyed telling me what they did to each inmate before the person was brought to the Execution Chamber to prevent the person from defecating on themselves when the electricity was applied. The only thing worse than what they did to the condemned was not only he enjoyed it but how much pleasure it brought him and the other staff. Prison staff are some VERY mentally sick people.

The electric chair was extremely gruesome and prone to repeated failure.... Why did we get rid of it????? Now when you do something horrible, you're gonna get free room and board, and medical care forever. I mean yes, its not a hotel or a spa, but its life. If you can really prove within 99.9% that someone is guilty of something terribly gruesome, or prove within the same percentage that their brain is only wired for atrocity and incapable of anything else..... This should be the answer.

I am learning about Capital Punishment and it depends to the type of crime committed. Repeated murders I believe the murder should be executed but if it's stealing or rape with out killing, the person who committed the crime should be sentenced to life in prison, not 24 years but life, till they die.

If you were to choose between electrocution or lethal injection, which would you choose?
@otreblig18899 жыл бұрын
Bryce Gipple Very hard question
@Thompson98PL8 жыл бұрын
Electric chair is painful as hell and execution is really easy to botch, but if everything goes correct it takes about 20 seconds to die, not always though. Lethal injection is not that painless as some say because in most cases the inmate can feel drugs in his body well despite being given drug to fall asleep first. I watched a documentary ,,how to kill a human being'' (i recommend it) and there was a lady who was given pancuronium bromide which they use in executions and she said when she woke up suddenly she could feel it and it was like her body was on fire and she could not move a muscle. Imagine something like that while lying over 10 minutes strapped to a table. The only good method of carrying out an execution is avaliable (only when you were convicted before 2004) in Utah and it is a firing squad. But more states may choose this methed as a main one due to the shortage of lethal drugs. So imo firing squad is the best option it's the fastest of all methods and pretty painless if at least one bullet will go through your heart which is easy to do cause shooters must be always a proffesionals to take part in such execution. Hanging is only painless when rope breaks yorr neck but that happens not very often. And if it won't break your neck then you will suffocate to death and it can take some time. Gas chamber is so painful as well you feel like you have a heart attack while suffocating. I described all methods in the USA and for me firing squad is the only right option. And if you wanna know more watch this documentary that I mentioned earlier it is a good one.
