I pretty much exclusively use modular and tape but you got me thinking with this demo. It’s really enlightening to see someone showing the experimental possibilities of an Elektron box. The 3 LFO’s per track and how you can sequence everything is crazy powerful.

What an awesome video about a very interesting machine. you display so much more variety of possibilities (weird sounds, interesting compositions etc), than elsewhere. When one gets a super machine like this, does one still need a Digitakt (mk I) to accompany the Digitone II, or are you covered with just the Digitone II?
@sarahbellereid
@sarahbellereid 7 күн бұрын
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :) To be honest, I've never used a Digitakt myself, so I think it depends a lot on your preferred workflow and what kind of music you want to make. I will say that the DG2 is very deep, so you'll be able to do a lot with just it alone!

Very well explained, and that makes me realize this isn't for me. I'm not new to Eletron gear, I've tried almost all of them, and this brand is just too geek oriented for my needs. I'm not at all saying they're bad, it's just that to me they're not made to do straight forward electronic music, or very hard to be used in a versatile way. In the late 70's, we used to say that guitarists where making music just for guitarists. That's kind of what I think of Elektron, I feel they make instruments oriented too much towards bedroom geeks.. who actually really listens to the music produced by them? That's not a bad thing, the goal is to enjoy oneself, and that's just great. But I've rarely heard music I enjoy on Elektron, while I 've really liked some stuff made on more simple and straight forward electronic gear, like those 90's or early 2000's grooveboxes, or what the greats (Detroit house music, The Cure, Depeche Mode, early Drum&Bass or Reggae Duba, etc... ) did with very rudimentary gear.

Never owned an Elektron, are Digitones good as the brains of a setup or should I be looking at the Digitakts/Syntakts/Octatracks instead?
@brya1290
@brya1290 29 күн бұрын
If you were looking for an overall brain most people would say Octatrack, but honestly they’re a HUGE learning curve and a lot of people give up. All the boxes in this form factor (inc Digitakt/Syntakt) are very much more immediately accessible and you really only need to sync them as they all have the same excellent sequencing architecture. The drum capabilities of this thing are making my Syntakt seem a bit redundant frankly
@zuk987minge
@zuk987minge 29 күн бұрын
Digitone is just as good if you have any other sampler OG 4 trax and new up to 16 trax (you can sacrifice all sound tracks to use them as midi drivers) each of 16 notes polyphony. Otherwise get digitakt to cover ur sample + brain needs. (Octatrack if more advanced but I doubt you want to buy octatrack as 1st elektron device)
@bustagrinds865
@bustagrinds865 29 күн бұрын
I had never owned an Elektron device till a week ago (owned many synths and simpler Sequencers). I bought a Syntakt and immediately fell in love with the workflow. Elektron devices force you to synthesize sounds in the context of patterns/loops, not just sounds. Sounds that are simple and not too useful on their own are suddenly transformed into something interesting over a single measure, thanks to the step Sequencer and it's parameter locks going to the filter and the direct hands on sound shaping. The sound design options are all very immediately accessible, which make it tempting to Tweak. After 3 hrs of the Syntakt, I returned it and bought the Digitakt II. It added 4 more tracks, double the steps, and sampling (including loading single cycle waveforms, basic granular synthesis, and basic wavetable synthesis minus the morphing). I use mine for drums, Rhythmic basses & Plucks, and drone textures. The digitone and digitakt would Sequence external gear well, both 16 tracks. I'd pick one based on the sounds you want to go with it (Samples or these synthesis machines). I'm tempted to pickup one of these to go with it as a glitchy noise machine...but I think that's GAS. The digitakt should be able to handle what I would use this for, with the exception of swarm spread & modulating oscillators to one another.
@ulvessens5902
@ulvessens5902 29 күн бұрын
Hmm, Ok. I don't have a sampler, so perhaps the Digitakt could fill that job, plus be the brains. Thanks for your advice!
@bustagrinds865
@bustagrinds865 28 күн бұрын
@ulvessens5902 no problem! I think that's the answer: which device do you lack firepower in? They are both capable of awesome textures, noises, bass, drums, and rhythm. I gotta give a +1 to samplers for drums because of the compression and ability to cut thru a mix consistently... but drumsynths have a certain attraction too
