Thank you for your explanation of the various trig functions within recording mode!🙏

Hi, I realize this video is a bit old, but I just came across it and I have a small basic question towards the beginning. After you have your drum machine going on track 1 as a thru with a rec trig to open it open it up. You switch the track to a flex. And record off of rec buffer 1. So is the live signal still coming through even though there is no thru for it? That part got me confused. And I’m in the middle of setting up something similar but with a mic instead of your drum machine. So I can sing into the mic and grab samples live. If I can set this up this way I would not have to have a thru track + a flex track meaning 2 tracks which is what I thought I had to do. Can you explain how your flex track is still recording the signal

once I set the thru tack to a flex track what happens is that it plays back what it records in real time but it only does so as long as you are continually recording the input - so if you wanted to sample your voice and reuse a recorded sample while still having your voice incoming live you would still need 2 tracks (one for thru audio and the other to record and then playback samples of your voice) UNLESS you were to use the direct audio in from the mixer page which would however bypass any of the octatrack's internal fx... hope that is clear!

So you can record and rearrange freshly & all-the-time recording incoming audio on one track with this method, right?

yes, I haven't really figured out how to use the scenes as a song transition but in this video it sounds like he is recording the incoming beat then plays it back on the octa in one scene while changing the patterns on the volcas and then switching scenes to play back the new incoming pattern - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZzHi3mdrauroLM
