This subject totally got me... I´m so fascinated by it. Also the geophone... That´s so cool!!! I´ll definitely put my name on the list.

I don't know how much they were selling these for, but you can do this with an old portable cassette player (like a walkman). I remember listening to xerox machines and stuff. pretty interesting stuff. If you want to try it out, just get an old walkman and see if you can get it to work. I think you had to have it set to "play" but paused or something, can't remember exactly. Basically you need to be getting a feed from the read heads of the deck without any signal coming from the cassette because any music or noise recorded on the cassette will overpower the sounds of the electromagnetic fields you're looking for (using a blank cassette is one possible way to mitigate this). This also might work best on cheaper models because the higher end decks would be more likely to include include some kind of shielding against magnetic field interference, to produce a cleaner playback. The lighter the cassette player is, the more plastic, less metal was probably used in it's construction, and the less likely it's got significant magnetic shielding. Conversely, using a higher end cassette might actually help because if you have to have the deck set to "play" a higher end blank cassette is *probably* going to produce less tape hiss than an inexpensive one. Additionally, if you really want to get crazy with it, you could remove the playback head, connect it to the tape deck with some length of insulated wire and have it free of any shielding within the deck housing. In that case, a higher end deck might actually work better because the playback head may be more sensitive and potentially pick up a wider range of sound with more fidelity, but who knows. all that said, the elektrosluch probably works much more effectively. it's designed to pick up on external magnetic fields where as a tapedeck is generally designed (if made well) to filter out external magnetic fields. tl;dr you can do this with old portable cassette players, cheaper, lighter weight cassette players are *probably* going to work better than heavier/higher end models. you may have to fidget with "play" "pause", volume settings to get it to work, and using a blank cassette is probably going to work best.

Hi - I just read this because I've been wanting to get into EM recording but the LOM products are always sold out. I do have an old cassette walkman though - would you mind explaining a little further on what this looks like? Would I just be entering a blank tape, setting it to play, pausing it and then bringing it close to devices emitting EM signals?

Yes
@andrew-7299 ай бұрын
you are just trying to activate the heads without activating the motors or anything, so thats why its pause then lightly press play until you hear something. With the blank tape, you would be playing the blank tape and just hold it near a emf source. i assume the downside this way is the emf form the motor in it is audible, but not overpowering the emf sources you go close to. just my take @@deshume

I love this device, and would recommend anyone interested in getting new perspectives on things to purchase one. Elektroslouching around = best thing ever.

Just read about cemi field theory as a possible solution to the Hard Problem of consciousness. It is philosophically interesting and seems to have some actual lab evidence supporting it. If true, it suggests that the electromagnetic field surrounding the brain is the substrate of consciousness. But it is tantalizing to wonder if all electromagnetic fields may experience themselves on some level. Which would be odd food for thought while you were doing this.

You can hear electromagnetic fields without specialised equipment?
@NofewFudtefcity5 жыл бұрын
@@CodOfAges Yeah. It's not hard with some equipment, either. One of my cheapest laptops is horribly loud to the point that other people can hear it, too, but beyond that, there's a lot of stuff that only I seem to pick up on. SSDs are kinda interesting. I usually tell people it's sort of like the clicking that mechanical drives do, just a lot shorter.

amazing! pre-order instead of maillistsubscription would be a good idea. So Elektrosluch 3 is ready to go, you don´t need to assemble/DIY, right?

Hey there, we don't want to take your money before we're sure we can deliver the device on specific time. That is why we do limited pre-order runs once in a while. Yes, the Elektrosluch 3+ is fully assembled, but sold out for the moment.

What's the difference between this model and older one as well Priezor? Portability or something more specific? Thanks
@jonas.gruska4 жыл бұрын
Elektrosluch has a built-in amplifier, Priezor doesn't. The pickup pattern is different. Elektrosluch 3 had better-tuned amplifier.
@kappabravomusic21014 жыл бұрын
@@jonas.gruska damn it. I got Priezor thinking that it'd be a better choice since it has P48. But was wondering if I could minimize leakage of EMFs from other surrounding things when recording something specific. "Tinfoil hat" sort of speaking.
