I am so glad you gave this a seal of approval. I watched just to see what you thought of it, as we already have the game. We really like abstracts in this house. I am certain that we are not as deep into them as some. I love the imperfect knowledge in this one. Drawing blind, and then, in that moment, needing to figure out how to best use what you have. . . Fantastic! We have played 15 times in the last year and a half (we have A LOT of games). And we love it at every player count.

Knowing what attacks what is on the board. The picture of the elements around the board guide you.

I think the cover fits the game rather well. The board and pieces themselves are not flashy and had the cover been more so, it may have caused a bit of disappointment when the box was opened.

what a great year for abstracts! with all the great reprints and a few new brilliant games 2017 looks like the best abstract gaming year in at least a very long while, I would say.

What abstracts do you prefer?

I'm wondering if a variant where you draw your tiles early - at the end of your turn - and leave them on display would allow it to be viable as a perfect information style game.

Fun fact, the company creator of this game is one of the original guys from Ghost Hunters

this doesn't seem all that abstract to me. the mechanics make thematic sense based on the elements they represent. based on the idea of four elemental wizards sparring. seems like an Avatar the last airbender game minus the license. typically people say a game is abstract when "any theme could be pasted on". but here the theme and the mechanics seem pretty much intertwined. I cant imagine any other theme that would work as well.
