Thank you so much. I watched a lot of videos but you explained the best. Others just directly went to solving the problem but you showed us the rules along with animation to explain what makes it echelon and reduced echelon. So thank you.

We can also say that a reduced row echeleon form must satisfies just two conditions: the main diagonal of the matrix must consists of 0 or 1 and all the elements under the main diagonal must equal to 0.
@HamblinMath
@HamblinMath 10 жыл бұрын
Actually that's not correct. For example this matrix: 1 2 3 0 0 1 0 0 1 Satisfies your condition but is not in echelon form.

what is the need to reduce the matrix in reduced row echelon form>>>(leading element 1).while calculating rank did row echelon and reduced echelon form give different result???

hey ,can we mix up both rows and column operations in the same problem for finding the inverse???
@HamblinMath
@HamblinMath 7 жыл бұрын
"Column operations" aren't really a thing that we can do. Remember that each row of your matrix represents an equation, so row operations represent operations that we can do to equations: adding two equations together, multiplying both sides of an equation by a constant, etc.
@lostkafka2416
@lostkafka2416 7 жыл бұрын
but in case of finding rank by reducing a given matrix to normal form of a matrix you have to mix up both column operation and row operation right?? why that doesn't make any difference to equations
@lostkafka2416
@lostkafka2416 7 жыл бұрын
and i forgot to mention thank you very much for your effort to make this video :)
@HamblinMath
@HamblinMath 7 жыл бұрын
Your instructor might disagree with me, but I would recommend that you never use column operations on a matrix. If you're interested in the column space of a matrix A, this is the same as the row space of A-transpose. I would transpose the matrix and do the normal row operations.

sir it is compulsory to have zero row in echelon form of a matrix
@HamblinMath
@HamblinMath 7 жыл бұрын
No. In fact, most matrices you will typically work with won't have any rows of zeroes. The only rule is that *if* you have a row of zeroes, it must be below any other rows for the matrix to be in echelon form.
