For me, Elena Cernei is not only a dramatic mezzo soprano, but rather a contralto, possessing an amazing upper extension up to soprano. Thence these deep notes.

@@aetion No. I mean precisely a lirico mezzosoprano. Her repertoire was largetly that of a mezzosoprano drammatico, but her natural voice was not. You can hear this particularly in her Rossinian work. And when she uses chest voice without darkening it. The latter you can see in Carmen live.
