....qui è una grande artista che rende al personaggio uno stile nobile...levandolo al verismo di troppe ...routinier furbe...ma poco nobili nel Dolore...forse solo la Callas sapeva cucirsi addosso così i Ruoli che interpretava... Una signora del teatro musicale che supera ogni paragone.E a molti ruoli verdiani regalò un' attenta analisi che in teatro la rendeva vincente per l'attenzione al fraseggio sempre Molto attento e ad una gestualità che già a Spoleto quando in Carmen nel 62...stupì il mondo con una Carmen Nera...superlativa...che le portò fortuna e la sdoganò dal razzismo viscido che gli impedì agli inizi della carriera di recitare in America , poichè gli orchestrali si rifiutavano di far cantare una nera.......Lei avendo presente la lezione della Simionato levò il vezzo "sbagliato" di rendere questi personaggi eccessivamente ...veristi.Grande studiosa...si riprese molte rivincite professionali dopo Spoleto fu chiamata A Firenze dove imparò a stare in scena amatissima dai registi, poichè molto moderna e disciplinata... e persino a Mosca ...dove stupì il pubblico come Carmen ,ma sopratutto in un recital... cantando molti autori russi...il suo fascino veniva dal fatto che era di cultura Francofona...che gli valse il rispetto di un giovane Prètre che con lei affrontò il repertorio francese,restituendo alle molte eroine francesi il suono esatto del soprano Falcon.In una messa da Requiem di Verdi in tre giorni sostenne sia la parte di soprano sia la parte di mezzo.Cosi...in Aida, Norma, ecc ecc...era di una signorilità e riservatezza pare ad una classe ...senza confronti.

Il personaggio forse manca di qualcosa, Azucena trabocca di passione e disperazione come si sente qui, ma I brividi dell'oscuro e la violenta minaccia dell'inferno non si avvertono. Per tutto questo insieme, per me, ascoltare Ebe Stignani, severa, smagliante, disperata e inquietante...

The tempo is too slow to build the kind of desperation and feverishness required by the aria. It’s like they’re singing “Pace Mio Dio” and not talking about tossing a baby into a bonfire. Verrett did the best she could to make it exciting using her vocal dynamics. But the conductor held this piece back too much here.

concordo in pieno. E' di fatto un (vero) soprano drammatico che canta da mezzo, una meraviglia da sentire, in virtù anche del colore molto scuro dappertutto, e di note di passaggio manovrate alla perfezione col fiato. E forse è più in repertorio qui che in certi ruoli troppo coloratura per lei. in ogni modo splendida, Azucena "nella" voce

Bah...sarà anche fuori repertorio, ma è forse l' Azucena che preferisco: interpretazione straordinaria (come in tutti i suoi ruoli) e voce piena e risonante sempre su un binario... le mezzo di solito strillano gli acuti e/o mandano troppo presto ed esageratamente in petto le note gravi. Grande Verret.

Roberta Bagnasco infatti non li manda in petto perché è un soprano drammatico, non un mezzosoprano drammatico, come dovrebbe essere Azucena. I suoni di petto, sappia, che nel mezzosoprano drammatico sono ricchi e pieni di armonici, ciò che qualifica questo tipo di voce appunto. Come se emettere suoni di petto fosse un demerito...,mah non vi rendete conto di quello che dite...

Verrett never recorded a complete Aida (in the title role or as Amneris). She did collaborate with Caballe on an old RCA opera duets CD featuring the Act II duet as Amneris, my personally favorite track. As for "Trovatore," look for the Decca set with Pavarotti as Manrico and Nucci as Di Luna.
