Brilliant match. I couldn't ask for more from either of them, esp. vs. each other. Rybakina played a crazy good 1st set, but left the door open for Sabalenka. She has to know by now that she loses 3-set matches to Sabalenka. Well done by Aryna to stay composed and attack when she had the chances.

Ryba should have won this easy but look at that amazing fighting spirit from Saba never giving up fighting for every last point like her life depended on it. Now that's great competition. Amazing. And now for the boss fight.

@@jonfreeman9682 Elena showed the same fighting spirit, down 2 MATCH points in final set, in quarter final, but reeled off 5 successive games to win 7-5 in 3rd set. Perhaps, it was too hard physically and mentally, to fight as hard when Sabalenka seized the opening when Rybakina started to make some sloppy shots due to fatiguw. Note the last match they played in Australia. Elena easily beat Arnya in straight sets - I think it was 6-0, 6-3.

So impressed with Rybakina being able to bring it to third set tie break after she had such a draining battle with putinseva yesterday and sabalenka having a pretty easy match. Both played so well, two best servers on tour. Much respect to sabalenka, remember when she couldn't get a serve in the court for almost 5 months a few years ago? Such a great work ethic and mind to overcome that.

The consultant Aryna brought in to solve her serving (and forehand) issues is named Gavin MacMillan. There are videos where he discusses the work he did with her. He realized that her problem wasn't mental but rather technical--she had fundamental flaws in her serve and forehand which rendered them inherently unreliable, and that was the reason for her mental struggles, rather than the other way around. Good on Aryna for embracing her teacher's advice and putting it into action. Hope she paid him well!

I am a loss why Elena played Aryna's game in the second and third set when she could throw her off when she played simple, deliberate and using some drop shots. She really wanted to test herself if she could match Aryna power for power in the baseline. This is one of her loss which i do'nt really agree.

Never let the truth get in the way of a triggered exaggeration. You whingers know what you are going to get when you choose to watch a Sabalenka match. The operative word being choose. You really should look up the dictionary definition of screaming. Screaming when done by females is typically high pitched representing pain or fear. Eg. horror movies, prank videos on KZbin. The noise Sabalenka makes is much lower and is in the rhythm of her shot. If she was screaming she wouldn't be able to do it for match after match as it would hurt her throat and sound scary. Sharapova made and Azarenka makes a higher pitched noise.

Sabalenka gotta give Women's tennis more credit cause that was an amazing match! Kudos to both players. Sabalenka has come a long way and is so mentally tough this entire tournament. Saba should learn to respect the opponent and keep the irritating screaming till the end of the match and not after every point a great announce for players and spectators. A distraction which the chair umpire should enforce.

Nobody complains about it but punters on comment boards. It's not a rules violation--according to the organization that makes the rules. And no, the chair umpire is not there to make sure punters aren't irritated.

Match of the tournament so far. This was Elena's to lose because of the UE at crucial moments but credit to Saba for staying in there. This bodes well for Iga as she has a better chance vs Saba than Ryba imho...

Well, Iga is well rested. Aryna has to rest up and get ready. Iga is 2 years younger and #1. Aryna earned the right to play her. I do not mind the sounds she makes. My favorite, Elena accepts defeat professionally. She is very mature. I would really like for her to get a new coach. Her present coach is a Prima Dona. He seems to want the attention. He is such a distraction to her.

I was absolutely surprised how well Lena started her play after such a devastating and terrible match with Putintseva the day before. I assumed she would go out tired and would have made lots of mistakes but on the contrary she was very composed and served perfectly, and accepted the Arina’s serves very well. Two silly mistakes at 5:4 second set turned out all the game on 180*. Arina surprisingly played worse during first half of the match with many mistakes even not been tired after easy game with Mirra. Anyway in the second part of the match things changed completely and we have what we have. I am so sorry for Lena’s loss of this match. Comunque andiamo avanti.

Man hofft immer das Rybakina die bessere Spielerin das Match zu Ende bringt. Das brüllen von Sabalenka ist unmöglich und eine Zumutung für Zuschauer und Gegnerin. Vielleicht schafft Sabalenka irgendwann den Sprung zu einem technisch guten Spiel und nicht dieses Schlag drauf Tennis. Leider hat Rybakina die technisch feinere Spielerin verloren. Das wird sich aber im Laufe der Matches ändern. Schade für Elena
