@QPHashSS77 By the fact that the USSR were in a class of their own in the 80's. Their team was just as deep as the US team is in present day. Mostepanova would've been the AA winner, she scored a perfect 40 in the all-around at the Friendship Games that year.

Mary Lou and Shushunova's floor routines were both worth 10.0 so the cleanest routine would have won. Remember that McNamara beat Mary Lou for the silver in the floor exercise final in 1984 with a simpler yet cleaner routine.

Love seeing that gimnástic....the perfect conbination between strenght and ballet. Not like now that Girls look like bodybuilders and her movements are pure force: disgusting and boring. The russian school in this era was perfect.... now the Thomas vault is totally insane and unsafed.....i just can't understand how it was ever permited...landing with your own neck?? 🤢

I don't like the Russian school, forcing the athletes to do dangerous routines. Never forget Elena Mukhina, who did the Thomas Salto and became paralyzed 1980.
