I've always loved this exercise. Great tumbling albeit somewhat conventional, great expression, great choreography. Classic Soviet gymnastics.

I searched and searched for this routine on youtube and so glad I found it. I remembered watching it way back in 1988 and it stuck in my mind as being one of the most entertaining floor routines ever! Loved the music and wish the girls would include more "dance" in their routines today!

I love it! Not only does the music punctuate her movements but she punctuates the music with her movements like with her stag dive roll. Everything is working here and the music actually fits and isn't just background music.

I have always been enthralled by the Soviets. They were undisputably the greatest in the history of the sport. However, there was a context to the Romanian "debacle". In my opinion, Dobre had an expression of rancor and resentment. Golea looked preoccupied by her injured heels and calves. The Romanians looked stressed but not "physically weak". The team was demoralized and they still showed a lot of character and strength.

Dobre had a horrible knee injury and after surgery, was sadly only a shell of her former self in Seoul 😢.

She was even more amazing in 1986 and did one of the best full-ins off beam I've ever seen. It's also too bad she took out her trademark 1 ½ to full-in on floor she had done as recently as the European Cup earlier that year.

@@azbycx56 the tumbling of the last line was harder than Boginskaya's, but their styles were night and day to the point of it being virtually impossible to compare them. It comes down to a personal preference, really.

Although it annoys me that her legs fly apart enormously on every single pass, something the judges ignored if you were a Soviet, this is playful and cheeky routine. Interesting choreo that matched the music perfectly and well performed.

It wasn't just the Soviets who had form breaks on their tumbling, nor were they the only ones whose breaks were ignored.

The Soviets were magnificent but Romania had to deal with adverse conditions caused by the injuries that Aurelia Dobre and Eugenia Golea competed with. In any case, I don't think the USSR would have been defeated but the competition could have been that much more spectacular.

@@azbycx56 it's a shame though that Oksana could not sustain top level. Her "Birdie" FX from 85 Worlds is one of the top floor routines for me in terms of pure joy and entertainment as well as the top skills. :)

Sadly around '87-'88 Omelianchik became too inconsistent in what had been her 2 best events, beam (lots of wobbles) and floor (where she seemed to run out of steam on her double pike dismount). Of course her artistry was unmatched, perhaps only by Mostepanova and Filatova
