Absolutely stunning! You both made it look so easy, which probably would take people who have been doing quilting & foundation paper piecing most of their lives to complete a project like this. How you showed the cutting of each piece & the joining thereof, was extremely clear & non wasteful. Also when I heard that you were going to free motion quilt the elephant on the domestic machine, I was blown away & thought you had made a mistake!!! I love this tutorial! I have seen similar paper piecing videos but the amount of wastage with the fabric has always put me off, your way of matching up the fabrics, cutting exactly what size you need and then using the pins! What a simple but fool proof way to make sure everything is even! Your elephant is absolutely beautiful, and you really showed how easy the kit is to create by breaking down each step. The free motion quilting is just incredible, your both so incredibly talented, it’s a joy to watch you create together. Thanks again 🙏🙂

Loved, loved, loved this video as I do a few others I have seen that you did. I am amazed at the intricacies of the free motion quilting on this because I have no idea where or even how to start once I get my top completed and your design is exquisite! I am in the process of deciding which colorway/colors I want to do this in but think I am leaning toward purples, lilac, lavender, teals. Anyway, thank you both; I am sure you are backed up for doing free motion quilting but could you recommend another reputable shop or person that would be able to do something similar once I get my "Ellie" altogether?

I already have the pattern and decided to try it first using some of the odd scraps that I have in my stash. If that works and I am enjoying it and it is coming out "decently", I will look to purchase the purple quilt kit and if it is gone then I will look at some other options you might have available at the time. We have a instructor in Canada named Terry Rowland. She did her elephant with over 35 colors. Her finished quilt knocked it out of the park. it really looked amazing. Try to colour match the best you can. But definitely finish it. It will work out beautifully. After all it is an abstraction. I've scene the elephant done in many colors. Some times the back legs blend with the front. Sometimes the trunk looks like a trip to the dentist may be needed for that tusk, but no matter what they are always breathtaking. It will work out.

Hi Jenny: I only have a helpful hints tip sheet on the Bargello in the back ground. It is a Suzy Weaver pattern called two fabric bargello. I have a few patterns left on the site. Hi ! I have a question regarding paper piecing. I used a dark fabric at the bottom, and got some differences in the ground- line . So I’m thinking of putting a kind of tree abstraction to hide it. I usually just raw edge a accent piece over top. Maybe finish with a satin stitch if you don't like the raw edge.

Darn sorry, I didn't see this question when it was relevant. We use warm and bright cotton blend, one layer. The wool makes it way too heavy for the wall.

Hi Susan: Sorry I've been working up North, on site now for a while. No, I started in the dead center of the trunk, with a circle. I used the bottom of the quilt room garbage can and everything expanded out from there. That way the three layers can adjust smoothly from the center out. I don't get giant fabric puckers on the backside of the quilt. You can smooth as you go. Also I roll up the sides and use just the home domestic machine so I can easily manage the roll on the right hand throat side of the machine. Thanks, Alain.

Hi There: Yes, we do just sell the pattern. It's available on the website. It requires according to the pattern instructions 12 plus yards. I only used 8 1/2 yards when I made them. On this one and the blue elephant we used One layer of batting. On this elephant we used warm & bright cotton batting. On the other one, wool batting was used. It really stiffened the whole quilt up and it became very heavy. That is the only time we used wool batting. We are not fans of Wool batting for those reasons. Thanks for the question.
