The male elephant in this video was stabbed 20-30 times by another male elephant with long tusks. The elephant survived the attack but grew weak. The Sri Lankan officers checked the elephant and treated his wounds. After the treatment they used machinery and noise to try to get the elephant to stand, because an elephant cannot live long laying flat on the ground. They cooled the elephant with water, also hoping the water would revive the elephant. Unfortunately the elephant had internal injury that could not be helped. Thank you to Sri Lanka for doing what you could to help this elephant!

It is great to see the officers doing the job at their best capacity. It will be argued, technology looks primitive, lack of professionalism and tools used may not be fit for purpose. But that’s what you’ve got. Can’t complain about it. I can remember once a truck deck collapsed while transporting a tranqulized animal and it died. Once during of this kind of treatment, elephant stood up and tried to kill the small excavator operator and had to be shot down. If you are really compassionate help them to get appropriate equipments. Comments on video - please don’t stray your viewers. They want to see an end to the story. Not necessarily to have a video to the end, but if you can include a summary what happens afterwards from your video that will help a lot for viewers. In this video context, I’m not sure why it is that urgent to put the animal back on it’s weak legs. Further, tranquilising the creature sustaining multiple wounds from a battle with a tusker plus almost certain internal injuries with unknown severity, questions me could it has been the best choice at the time? I’m not a veterinarian and could be wrong. Good luck with next saving attempts.

I just watched one that said the Elephant was sick, no she has been stabbed 20 -30 times and you reposted it within a day or two from one another. You don't have to do that. It could be due to spread its dominance over a herd even ahead of the matriarch. This elephant is in pain and is almost out of energy to even stand up. Officers are trying their best to get this elephant back up. This elephant has been injured and stabbed like this for a long time and is still alive. Officers think that stabbings from the tusker have missed its vital organs of critical spots. This is not an easy task as these officers will have to spend a lot of time feeding the elephant to recover its own strength. The elephant needs to be cooled down, and the officers started pouring water to address this issue. Elephants need to cool, and they do that through flapping their ears like fans. Heat-releasing blood vessels aren’t the only useful function of an elephant’s ears. Even one of his ears has been shot. Officers are treating this elephant with all they have and will take weeks and more progress reports to have a look at its state if the elephant survives. But unfortunately, this elephant did not survive as some internal wounds cannot be determined and treated that easily like to a human being. This is one main reason why identified tuskers are kept away from the elephant herds as they are sometimes known as a treat for the other elephants

I read the main article. Sadly this elephant didn't make it. And yes, it's possible that having him lie down for so long and then try to revive may have been too much for him due to internal injuries that they were not able to diagnose at the time. But they tried their best and did a lot of work for him. It's most likely that if they had not tried, his death would have taken a long time and he would have been in extreme pain over many days.
