hello guyz,
Background of ELEPHANTA CAVES:
Designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the Elephanta Caves are a collection of cave temples predominantly dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. They are on Elephanta Island, or Gharapuri (literally "the city of caves"), in Mumbai Harbour, 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) east of Mumbai in the Indian state of Mahārāshtra. The island, about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) west of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port, consists of five Hindu caves, a few Buddhist stupa mounds that date back to the 2nd century BCE, and two Buddhist caves with water tanks.
EXPENSES:
CSTM station to gateway of india via shared taxi will cost you around Rs 30 per person. That being said, you have to take Ferry to reach elephanta Island, ferry charges for per person will be around Rs 260 (return included). The time that you will be spending from Gateway of india to Elephanta Island is around one an half hour (so plan accordingly).
Once you reach island you can either take Toy Train ( charges 10rs per person) or you can go by walk. i would suggest to go by walk because its hardly 5 mins. While entering the island you have to pay Rs 5 per person to Gram panchayat. fhewww. And one final fee that will be charged to you is Elephanta caves entry fee which is Rs 40 per person.
Intotal,
40(sharing taxi) + 260(ferry) + 5(gram panchayat) + 40(elephanta caves entry fee) = Rs 335 per person
That is all you need bare minimum.
