This is personal info. Went to cancer center yesterday. Not the news we were hoping for. They've given me 6 months (maybe a little more). This is based on data they have and it's not written in stone, but they're pretty good with their data. I'm not worried about it because I've lived a life, have few regrets, and a lot of experience. If I were 25 I might be worried, but I'm 75 and not afraid to die. I have been a fan of yours for a long time. I know you will succeed in any endeavor you pursue. You are a positive force in not just my life, but a lot of lives. I'll still be around for awhile, will participate when I can. I tell you all of this personal information not for sympathy, because I need none, but just to let you know what's up with me. I have nothing but admiration for you my friend. Be talking to you 👍

I am currently (newly) obsessed with getting my home routine on track and destroy my outrageous credit card balance. For the first time ever I believe I have the momentum I need. It’s all coming from watching you and other frugal people constantly - in the morning getting ready for work, at my desk at lunch, while prepping dinner and doing dishes, before bed. Obsession works for me 😂Thanks for the great content.

Hi Kate, only this week I said no to a dear friend. She made this amazing plans to go with the kids at the end of the month. It’s really far away from me and I don’t drive, it would take me hours to get there and back and it’s so cold in London right now!! She was super understanding and I’m so shocked, because before J would have done anything to not missed something like this. Feeling so proud of myself.😊

I’ve been at my job for 35 years! In my younger days I always worked 2 jobs as I lived in a high cost area in NY. A leap of faith allowed me to relocate to a unknown state, buy a home and ultimately transfer again to care for my dad in the last 2 years. My PT job ( more Ft) is caring for the old dad - the pay sucks - lol - but his safety is most important and priceless! . It’s been difficult to move in with him but I’m seeing this an opportunity to give him more than any care home would do, and rent out my home. I’m still working and travel during the day so also pay for helpers to stay with dad. He was a workhorse back in the day and worked up to 3 jobs to care for his family and in my heart I know it’s his turn to be cared for, when he can’t care for himself. I heavily contribute to my 401k and just paid off my car :)

I think I need to budget it in later but I love to help it really warms my heart ❤️ makes me feel great...my momma taught me that a smile is so much more than anything you can buy....what a world we would live in if everyone felt this way. I am also working on scaling down my possessions.. I really don't need much. I want to buy and own the farm I live on outright. I have lots of goals. That’s how I found your channel. I’m only on paycheck #2 and the erasure marks and cross-outs are bountiful….😂😂😂 But, I’m learning and figuring things out. We saved up for a go out to eat meal. It felt amazing to use cash for the entire bill and tip! We use an envelope system and take a few dollars each pay check and add to it. We have spent enough on eating out to know how much each place will run us, so we decided as a family, where do we want to treat ourselves, and saved that amount for that meal. We started cash only January this year, had a few hiccups but that's ok, we are making smarter choices and learning patience. We want to make it the challenge for the rest of the year and see how far we can go paying off debt instead of adding to it.

I started walking dogs in the neighborhood as a side hustle and since I love to walk and love dogs this has helped me make extra cash. Never thought this would be a side hustle for me but you just have to do the best you can! The no spend challenge this month has been so eye opening. I am keeping an album if I want to buy on my phone. Instead of actually being it I can just remember what I want and when I can and have the extra cash I will. Thank you for your videos and encouragement!! ❤

Although I am doing a no spend and dry January, I have had unusual expenses. My daughter was 3 months behind in her loan that I cosigned and I had to pay it. Also, I had work in another town and the roads weren't passable because we are not equiped to deal with snow here on the island. I had to pay someone to drive me to and from work a few times and I had to pay for a hotel between shifts once. I have worked an extra 84 hours this month that is paid double time. I now need a break. On the positive side, my grandson got a really good job and is motivated to pay back the money I have loaned him. He has been working overtime. I think it rubbed off on him lol. Thank you Kate for continuing to motivate me.

Hello Kate, I have watched a couple of your videos so far. I like it that you are not judgemental or forceful in suggesting solutions to financial woes. As one of your previous posters mentioned cancer, or other serious illness can be limiting on many levels, and also puts things into perspective. He shared a harsh reality. I have concluded that seeking, and finding balance in life is essential. Regardless of how long or short the time we living purposely and doing our best to manage our finances in the most productive way possible can bring peace and enjoyment, especially if one is older and lives on a limited amount.

Love your videos Kate Someone once told me the best way for people pleasers like us can think of :”when we say yes to something, we are saying no to something else (our family, our goals, ourselves)”. HAPPY FRUGAL FRIDAY, KATE AND KSQUAD!!! Just to clarify what Rosie said in the live chat: 1. She was worried that the expected snowfall would cancel school, but I told her it was okay at the last minute. 2. I didn’t say she was “too young” to have a budget. I said she doesn’t have any expenses right now. But she does use pencil and paper to track her savings and spending. 3. She is paid a commission instead of an allowance (thank you, Dave Ramsey), and she LOVES to cook, so we opened Rosie’s Cafe. She does my meal preps for the week, keeping me healthy on the go, while adding to her savings goals. Thank you ALL for your encouragement and support, and unwaivering patience. Instead of just saying No, with no explaining or giving TMI, I say, 'No. I'm just not getting a yes on that.' People understand that you are consulting your inner voice and always accept it.

😂 love the no. Not getting a yes.

I have decided to adopt a no spend lifestyle. If it's not urgently needed, I won't get it, regardless of price. I don't want clutter, life is too expensive to be wasteful

We read his book together in book club a few years ago:) Did you also watch the show he was on on Netflix? Good stuff.

@@KateKaden Yes! And, I look forward to his Tuesday podcasts too - very interesting to hear people's backgrounds and how that affects the ways they think about and handle money. His book is a great guide for beginners - very easy to read and implement some of his ideas to make things easier.

I was raised Catholic, went to a Catholic school, and have The Guilt. In fact I always say I graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Guilt. 😂😂

We sure feel like we're on a budget by golly. Actually, we have been BUDGETING but must conceed that while we arent flush we have enough to do more than just barely pay for the immediate expenses of 4 walls; cyclically in large part because we are budgeting. Will be listening because we are in a saving mode for spending purposes.

When you say "no" and there's that real or just plain seemingly awkwardness - Pass through the present but also dont run from the future. Give that individual, group of people, or situation at least a second chance of continued/ additional involvement; within limits of course. Often what you are doing is changing the dynamic of what you are doing, how you are doing it, the relationship, and more. It takes folks a little bit to get adjusted, figure out how things are going to proceed, etc... If you know ahead of time, it smooths things out to pre-announce then follow through; for goodness sake, don't whimp out on following through. Changes in gift giving, afternoon shopping get togethers, lunches and/ or coffee out, etc... are the things that come to mind. But also those long distance get togethers be it annual family holidays or those weddings which cost you $1,000 to $10,000 to attend and even be a part of.

Hey Kate I plan on starting the 100 envelope challenge with my bi weekly paychecks do you have any advice? Or have you done this challenge? I want to do this to prepare an emergency fund for my family.

Hey Taylor! I've never done it! Me personally, am not into the envelope system, but I've heard it works for many people:) I LOVE that you are preparing an emergency fund for your family! You've got this!
