Donny, can you do some videos on how to strengthen wrists to be able to jump set and get more distance?
@SirKibblestein4 жыл бұрын
I’ve been setting for many years now, so I can offer a little advice. (1) make sure you position yourself so that the your body mass is behind the trajectory of the ball (similar to bumping). If you every accidentally leaned back while trying to set forward, you probably noticed you don’t have much strength. This is because if you stand upright, you have no body mass supporting your hands. If you are slightly leaned over, you will find that you have more leverage, naturally giving you more strength. (2) the ideal set (at least indoor) is one where the setter hardly touches the ball for a long time. (Just look at the olympians; they set faster than Steph Curry’s jumper!) This allows their hitters to stay in rhythm, because they know their setter will consistently let go of the ball in less than half a second. They DONT waste time “catching” the ball or trying to cushion the ball’s speed. Instead, setters set “through” the ball. Similar to how you spike, you must finish the motion (don’t stop your arms and hands at the moment you make contact) to gather the most control and power. This is where the wrists come in. First, watch some Olympic videos, and see for yourself how quickly the let the ball out of their hands. Once you’re comfortable setting this quickly (remember, NO catching or cushioning), strengthen your wrists by using a basketball
@macky15224 жыл бұрын
for me i get a plastic bottle with full watet inside, then hold it and do up down motion with your wrist
@vaughnlean29514 жыл бұрын
Push your arms through so your hands are still out when you finish the set, they should be in line with trajectory of the ball. Also generate power from your knees
@jkunzier654 жыл бұрын
This is a great technique. As a few folks have mentioned, this technique should not be abused. Beginning players should learn to face their target and graduate to advanced techniques.

Hey coach Donny I'm really glad your doing tutorials again they've been helping a lot especially due to the fact that I've just transitioned from a right side to a setter which I love. I've been having issues though with setting to the three back row positions A, B and C. If it's possible could you do a setting tutorial on those. 🙏

Hey Coach Donny, I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to place serves better, for example to place them really short almost within the 10 foot line without hitting it in the net. I have been following all your serving videos, and my serves are really good and hard, but usually the opponent starts adapting by for example moving more backward when receiving, and then I would like to be able to consistently place short balls. Your videos helped me a lot!

Gotta love the serve while inside the court at @0:18 XD But good tutorial non the less. Keep up the good work Also a question: personally i dont spin set, i side set. Why is it better to spin set compared to just a side set where you would only tilt your upper body?
@Elbot1204 жыл бұрын
I imagine it has to do with the fact that its just much better to be setting whilst both arms are at the same height as opposed to sending with different heights. The other thing is having your body facing the spiker is better than sideways as it can be more unreliable.
@blastu994 жыл бұрын
@@Elbot120 thanks for that insight! i have been doing side sets since forever that ive its just as good as being face towards the spiker. For me the side sets allow me to have more options in those similar situation because now it have options of the hitters 6,2,3 and 4

Hey Coach, I really like your new intro, do have a new camera? I am a setter (actually outside, but our team needed a setter and it appears that I am pretty ok at it) and if the first pass doesn't come to me I always ( at least often) walk under the ball, jump and spin set to the outside hitter, but I don't really "spin" i mostly do an overhead set, and that really annoyes my coaches. How can I get used to spinning my body, because if I actively try to spin, my setting gets worse?

is there a big difference between between molten and mikasa balls?
@richardl.50544 жыл бұрын
Very big difference in the way that they feel and behave! Generally the Molten skin is grippier while Mikasa is more slippery; and, the Mikasa floats more but also drops more suddenly with topspin. * Check out his ball reviews, and also the comments for each review, and you'll see a wide range of opinions about these balls. * It's a good idea to learn how to play with either one. If playing rec, then get/use the one that you like, but if playing in a league, then obviously it's better to be accustomed to the league ball. * kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGq0gaadoLpmiZY (Molten Flistatec V5M5000; used by USA Volleyball) * kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaTMdpKpnJ6UhMU (Mikasa MVA200 - FIVB/Olympic ball since Beijing 2008) * kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5urgnqAitmYorM (Mikasa V200W - latest FIVB/Olympic ball, will be used at Tokyo 2020)
