In the manga translation I read, the other team's manager says "In order to have fun, first you need to build a playground," which is my favorite quote in the entire series. The best athletes are able to make the game look fun and easy because they have built up the fundamentals to the point where they don't even think about it.

About Hinata "Spider Man" move, I honestly don't know about the rules of Japan specifically for this, but he didn't really use the wall as a leverage for hitting the ball, he actually hit the ball in the air, then used the wall to safetly "land", so would that still be legal in the US? If you're not a left-handed super spiker or an extremely talented hitter on the right side, don't bank on getting noticed by the amateur eye. I want to highlight and expand the conversation between Hinata and Yamaguchi, in which the latter says "in order to fully enjoy a match, you need strength" cause that's an idea developed throughout the whole series. Yamaguchi, when practicing (and failing to do) his floating serve, reflects that his body doesn't move the way he wants it to and the ball doesn't go where he wants it to; he previously thought that just being on a team and messing around was fun, but realized that in a competition you have to be truly good to have fun. In Hinata's case, he's small and initially lacks of VB basis abilities such as receiving. He knows he needs to practice really hard cause even though he is and always will be small, he can be better. So it's not that the source of strength is having fun, even though feeling joy is a big part of being able to grow in the sport. The notion buildt here is that "being good means being free": you have to be strong to be able to move freely, to play in the same level of other strong people and, ultimately, have fun because your body, your abilities and your grownth allow you to.
@jasmineliu99223 жыл бұрын

11:25 It happened off screen but when the Johzenji captain was commenting on Hinata and Kageyama's quick, you could hear a "slap" noice from Kageyama giving Hinata a way too forceful high-five/ten so he was shaking his hands to get rid of the stinging

My favorite thing about Johzenji is that in Japanese, the verb you use to mean "play" in "play volleyball" is "suru" which translates to "to do." The Johzenji characters, specifically the blond one Terushima use "asobu" which translates literally to "play" but the connotation means something more like "to play around." Which is explains their more goofy style of play. To them volleyball is something you just have fun with, not something as serious as Karasuno treats it.

One of my favourite episodes actually. It really brought out Daichi's character and his importance on the team. Daichi and Suga balances the team's 'craziness' out with their structure, discipline, and simplicity. Also is a gentle reminder how every team needs a strong foundation to build on top of!

I don't think they are trying to "look cool" 'like Highschool Athletes, I think they are just playing simply to have fun that's why they don't get down when they mess up or anything.

Hana-san is the best I love her so much!!! Show all these men (including the coach lol) what's real!! I always wondered if it's because the coach is a newbie. He also came from a school with a really structured volleyball team (you'll meet them later) so he never worked with kids who aren't naturally disciplined.

That scene where Daichi is telling Hinata and Kageyama that he’ll look out for them, and he’s shown standing in front of Johzenji’s banner, is just so symbolic and beautiful for me. It really sums up why I love Daichi. And it’s why this episode is my favorite from Haikyuu.

"To make my teammates better" I fully resonate to this. I used to play a lot of sports when I was younger and this was my mantra. I doesnt matter if they thing Im only good at defense, what matters is that I create opportunities for my teammates to attack. Getting lose balls, stealing, blocking, rebounding, positioning myself to get a better passing angle, and now that I am playing more video games with my friends (since they prefer it and I dont have anyone to play physical sports). I still follow the same mantra, I am willing to do the sacrificial plays to make sure my teammates morale and confidence stays high.

A couple of quick clarifications: The reason the coach isn't as efficient is that he's a new coach. He is the one who introduced 2v2 practices at the school. I like the fact that haikyuu gives the coaches faults too instead of making them all just all-knowing wise-cracking experts. All players on Johzenji are volleyball players. The reason basketball was brought up was that the Date tech player said that his friend was on the basketball team at the school and that through them he found out about the 2v2 practice.

2:00 Shorter format in Ushijima's voice: after the end of the 3rd season, there's a bonus scene (a few minutes only) with Shiratorizawa. The reaction to that would be a good opportunity.

I find it fun and fitting that Johzenji guys say "asobo". Since if I'm correct the meaning would be "play around" instead of "let's play in this match" or something around those lines.

Something that I love about this episode and the following ones is that it shows just how flexible Karasuno truly is. When playing against the "party team" Johzenji, they go back to basics and keep everything steady, whereas when they're playing against the powerhouse Shiratorizawa, they get creative with their moves and go at it in such a way that Shiratorizawa can't read them. Flexibility is truly Karasuno's hallmark.

not sure if you noticed in the flashback, but coach anabara announced himself as the new coach for johzenji this year! so not only are the boys all kind of wild cards, the coach is still getting to know the team a bit. perhaps that's why he isn't seen giving as much feedback during the timeouts during the game so far? the manager just might have a slightly closer relationship to the team than the new coach since she's been with them (a little) longer.

I feel like the Daichi x terushima dynamic is underrated, but it's one of my favourites in the show. Terushima is such a loose cannon and sees no value in stability in a strong foundation. But seeing how Daichi plays, he begins to understand how significant it is.

In Japan, you won't really find people playing multiple sports in school. Since they treat it as a club and their athletes specialize in one sport year round. When they reference the baseball team they were just making a comparison. And when they say someone from the basketball team at Jozenji, they were saying that the basketball player watched Jozenji volleyball practices.
