12:13 - "there's no one to whip your butts into shape anymore" because this is the spring tournament and johzenji was just eliminated, their volleyball season is over; that means any leftover third years are going to retire now, including their female manager (who was the only third year left) -- and she was the one who was able to whip them into shape. so it's like saying farewell to her.

Haruichi Furudate He was a member of the 'volleyball club,' and started playing the sport in his junior high and remained active till high school. Furudate played the position of the middle blocker. His favorite volleyball players are 'Shigeru Aoyama' and 'Yuta Yoneyama.' He was passionate about playing volleyball professionally; however, he had some lingering doubts. Therefore, he decided to change his career path to a manga artist. So, he can share his passion and love of the sport with everyone in that visual art form.

It is truly eye-opening to see Takeru proclaim how lucky his school is to play Karasuno. Wakutani South High is considered a Miyagi prefecture powerhouse school, while Karasuno was considered to be a very weak school in recent years. The fact that the captain of a powerhouse school claims that he considers himself lucky to play them shows how much growth Karasuno has had since the interhigh prelims.

And this is the legendary episode that lead to the Google searches of, does Daichi die in haikyuu? Did Daichi die? Do people die in Haikyuu? Why did Daichi die? As well as the whole new meaning given to TANAKA NICE KILLLL😂😂 Also, I think the scene where Johzenji's manager turned her back on the gym and walked away was done so well, because I see it as her closing the chapter of high school volleyball in her life, all the feelings she felt as a manager on Johzenji's team, their tears and victories, were left on the court. It was such a bittersweet yet heartwarming scene for me.

As much as I appreciate Daichi's responsible, serious personality, I think the more laid back ones like Oikawa and Kuroo still show great leadership, just in a different style. While Karasuno is a generally hyper team who needs someone like Daichi to calm them down, Nekoma and Seijoh are relatively calm teams so Kuroo and Oikawa's personality work like a breath of fresh air. They still all have one thing in common: the captains understand their teammates and know how to bring out the best in them, which is how they earn their trust and respect despite their occasional goofiness. Anyways, It's nice to see a spotlight on the captains instead of the usual frontline spikers!

Hi coach I'm glad you mention the camera angles! The mangaka said in an interview that volleyball doesn't look interesting to non-volleyball players. So they rotated the camera as much as they could for every play to give more visual interest. In the manga they also use the text to lead the eye and tell the story. The animators really kept the same spirit with their storyboarding for this series. Wonderful cameras

Without giving out any spoilers, I'll say this : I think this story is very meaningful to any person who has been underminedㅡ by others or by themselves. I was moved to tears during a particular match. I hope the anime brings it to fans who don't read the manga.

i was moved to tears by this manga so much... there's no death, no dramatic fights, no angsty breakups and drama (besides kagehina's first fight, which was masterfully done).. but this series is still so emotional. the highs and lows of them growing up, heartbreaking defeats, and hard won victories. truly, a masterpiece that I can't wait to see adapted in anime form.

I'm not sure about why Karasuno though I know why Hinata. I think in a doc they showed some previous concepts of Haikyuu and they find the struggle of Hinata's height and personality to be very relatable and likable. People understand him right away compared to previous versions. Honestly Furudate writes such likeable characters, I love stories that show the world is full of interesting people and you can find people just like you and be friends.

Just like other people commented Furudate sensei was a middle blocker who loves volleyball so they drew/wrote Haikyuu based on experiences to show people that volleyball is fun. I also watched an interview on their editor (since Furudate wants to be anonymous) saying that they went through one shots/drafts of Hinata before Hinata became who he is now. He was completely different before officially becoming the small, passionate young athlete who wants to fight despite all odds against him. From the one shot Karasuno was also very different so it was all just trial and error.

Coach Anabara, in this case, is an actual professional coach. In fact, he's one of the better coaches in the series, turning a goofball team into a powerhouse team in just his first year coaching them. Coach Anabara is, by no means, a terrible coach because he turned the team's "only fun" attitude into a huge advantage, which, I highly doubt, is possible if a stern coach was in his place given how uninterested the Johzenji guys are at doing systematic plays at all. Until this match happened when they realized Karasuno is playing more freely than them despite being organized, which they deem "boring". He's no school adviser. He's literally employed by their school as an official coach.

I was looking forward to hearing opinions on how Daichi's injury could be interpreted, but next week it is!! Karasuno is the main team because Hinata personifies the fighting spirit needed to persevere against odds stacked against him. Furudate's favorite characters are Hinata and Tanaka among the Karasuno members. We have to keep in mind that Haikyuu came out when volleyball was a declining sport in Japan, and this single-handedly helped revive enthusiasm there. Hinata personifies Japan's position in the world as one of the shortest teams who can still win by staying motivated and finding new ways to fight. I'm beating a dead horse, and people will like who they like, but Oikawa has and will continue to show how he can be a good captain in other ways. His personality isn't the most likeable, so he's not winning points there, but he's shown to be incredibly understanding of his teammates, able to understand and adapt to his teammates' wishes whether they verbalize it or not (!!!), able to lead team conversations during matches, and we've seen how they unilaterally trust him completely. Idk what else to ask of a captain without asking for too much, ya know?

Oikawa is the second best setter in the series in my opinion. The top 5 setters in my opinion are: 1. A player we will meet in season 4(If you know who I mean, you know who I mean. If you don't, I won't spoil) 2. Oikawa(Aoba Johsai) 3. Kageyama 4. Kenma(Nekoma) 5. Akaashi(Fukurodani)

Possible spoilers alert! . . . . . @@timfangrad5173 I agree with that, number 1 is kinda obvious, but number 2 for me is Oikawa, even Kageyama recognizes that he may never be as good a setter as Oikawa because, even though he can do amazingly precise tosses, he can't get 100% from his teammates all the time like Oikawa does. Also, in my point of view, the series as a whole, especially the 2nd and 4th seasons debunk the idea that geniuses are absolutely superior, that point of view from Oikawa was just him with a fixed mindset, as the argentinian coach said, how can he say that he had reached his peak if his body haven't even finished developing? He was the most complete player in the province, had an unique understanding of the game and could read people as if they were an open book, he might not be as precise as Kageyama, or learn as quickly as him, but I would still choose him over Tobio and, depending on the team, even over the 4th season setter. Also I apologize for any mistakes, english is my second language.

@@timfangrad5173 I firmly believe this that the only reason "that" guy is considered the best setter in high school and won the best server award is because Oikawa never played in the Nationals 👀 just my opinion tho✌🏽😀

@@timfangrad5173 Absolutely! And once again, just like what Coach has said, Haikyuu shows how different kinds of people can still succeed and be amazing and be a valuable member of a team sport like volleyball. Not everyone on that list even loves volleyball the same, but that doesn’t matter. Especially knowing everything Oikawa puts himself through the end of the manga, how much more he has had to think outside the box to grow even more, I can’t help but admire him and defend him. Sure people can see he’s a good player, but that’s STILL underscoring just how much more he thinks and understands about volleyball compared to quite literally all those around him, all learned the hard way through his own shortcomings. Man, that end of the series "omg he did WHAT" moment for Oikawa was 👌🏼👌🏼🤧

Day 4 of this post! Coach, Here's a breakdown of Hinata and Kageyama's attacks: First, we have the initial freak quick, the one they developed all the way in the practice match against Tsukki, Yamaguchi and Daichi, in episode 3(?). This quick was special because Kageyama set the ball at a super fast pace, perfectly matching the jump, height, and the swing of Hinata's arm, making it so the ball is exactly in the space of Hinata's hand. This ball travels FAST. It's main power is the ABSURD transition time from SETTER to HITTER, not necessarily Hinata's speed. Hinata is fast, but as you know, fast tempo attackers are not uncommon, and Hinata's speed is not the highlight of this particular attack, it is simply utilized to the max by Kageyama's insane setting skills. The problem they had with this quick in season 1 was that it was so quick that Hinata was unable to change the direction of the hit, thus relying entirely on Kageyama's sets. Second, we have the NORMAL quick. This quick was developed in the first practice match with Nekoma, when Hinata was matched up with Inuoka, the spiky haired middle blocker. Hinata's struggle with getting blocked by Inuoka after he got used to his movements caused him to want to try hitting the ball in a different direction. Unfortunately, he missed the ball since he wasn't jumping properly(note to previous quick), which caused Coach Ukai to get Kageyama to set Hinata a NORMAL quick set, one that is a bit more floaty, (i.e. FIRST TEMPO) so that Hinata has the chance to adjust midair. This quick set is actually used in a lot more scenes than is obviously shown. For example, ALL of the quick sets done in the first set of this KARASUNO v. KAKUGAWA, before Kageyama decides to try the new quick set, were NORMAL quick sets. All of these sets still made use of Hinata's speed. Finally, we have the NEW FREAK QUICK. This one is essentially a combination between the first two options. It combines the absurd travel time of the first set and the floatiness of the second set. As you've said before, this set is rather unrealistic. It's most likely physically impossible to create the level of spin to make the speed of a volleyball go from 100 - 0 in that split second before the spiker hits the ball, but that's how it works in this anime. Because this is how it works, the freak quick is still capable of completely destroying read blockers, while still allowing Hinata to defeat commit blockers by directing his hits when needed. Hope this clears up some of the misunderstandings you've had since the show began, and hope this is helpful! TL:dr There are three different kinds of sets in haioyuu with Hinata and Kageyama. Please upvote to make sure Coach sees this!
