Andrew that looks amazing! That must’ve been really cool being in the machine room of the fastest elevator in North America, I can’t believe those go 2000fpm. That’s crazy! ThyssenKrupp Elevator has really outdone themselves with this set of elevators, not just the video presentation inside the elevator but the technology and all of the mechanics that go into it are just amazing!

Really cool video. Those machines are huge. If this is 1 WTC, I’ve always been curious about the elevator machinery in such a tall building. Only time I rode elevators at the WTC was in the original 1 WTC. There was a video on here of the original machine rooms and I was amazed. This was really cool, thanks for sharing. And nice elevator parts collection you have there.

Are the disc brakes actually used to decelerate the spool? or is that motor resistance to slow down, but discs to stop and hold?
@marktomlinson3448 Жыл бұрын
I am surprised no one has answered this yet. All slowdown right to the final stop is controlled electronically with solid state drives. The brakes only apply after the final stop.

The DC drive motors for the large shuttle elevators (the biggest ones) in the original WTC were over 300 HP. The 3-phase 480V motors for the MG sets (that were later replaced by SCR drives) were 400HP.
