I vibe I get from the eleventh doctor is that he actually was deeply affected by his past companions, and suppresses his memories to keep himself sane. He finds Amy and Rory, and after seeing the strength of their love, puts all his energy into trying to make them happy--knowing he could never have that kind of love--even if it means lying. You can see in "The Doctor's Wife" that look of horror as he steps into the old control room... he does remember his past, he just chooses not to show it.

when I started watching the (new) Doctor Who series, I didn't like Rose much. But the more I got into it, the more I came to like her for what she did and who she was. I am so happy about the 50th anniversary special, it was just perfect and heart warming and all in all amazing. Also, I'm happy for Billie, since she had the chance to come back on set once again.

I really think Moffat should have left more clues about the Doctor remembering Rose. It would be great (from the point of story, of course, not from the point of my heart) if the further the show goes, the less the Doctor remembers about Rose, the less clues he leaves. He moves on step by step, because he has to. River Song would feel much more logical then.

And I think that the fact that the video starts with Amy asking if he was gonna propose to someone almost could be perceived in it's own story as if the Doctor had actually bought a ring and was gonna propose to Rose before she got trapped and he'd been carrying it around all this time. I can see that. Maybe while trying to talk about Rory in a way that would make Amy understand, he remembers the times he had with Rose, and how he never wanted to forget her. Why would he want to remember Rose? I'm still trying to forget her. I really hope it's the bad-wolf entity in the 50th, and not her. Just look at all the companions it would have actually made sense for him to fall in love with. (Dr. Liz Shaw, Sarah-Jane Smith, and Romana to name a few...) Also, am I seriously the only person who finds the idea of The Doctor being romantically involved with a full-time companion really bad? I mean, that clearly makes a very one-sided relationship. What if they have a fight, and The Doctor refuses to take her home? At least with Romana, she's a timelord, and could find her way home if needed, but the point is, getting in relationships with people you are dependent on is dangerous, even if they are the best of people. BTW, The Doctor is not always the best of people.

I actually find it really symbolic and realistic, since in real life you don't always (in fact, you rarely) fall in love with someone for the convenience of it or because of how much sense it makes to be with a particular person. Many times, you just don't have control on over who really impacts you in an emotional way, and I think Rose's story and character development was very well made, and even though she wasn't everyone's favorite or the most convenient love interest for the doctor, you could definitely feel the emotional bond between them.

I agree with the doctor not having any openly romantic relationships with his companions. Rose was borderline to me, as they never showed any romantic interaction apart of hugging. So it was still acceptable, as it was not explicitly romantic. That is why I really hate the whole River/Pond story arc and try to pretend this never happened. I hope dearly, that this will be the last of Doctor-companion-romantic for a while, because I am thoroughly fed up. Not that I dislike romance, but with the doctor it just seems wrong, not to mention infinitely complicated. I do enjoy fanfiction and fan-videos though and I think, for shippers, this video was cleverly made. And who knows, the doctor has seen a lot in his 900+ years, he might have been thinking not only of Amy&Rory in that moment with his big Timelord brain ;)
