My dad died yesterday. I can still hardly believe it, we had talked the night before. I’m 25 and he was 59. I had actually shown this song to him a while back and it had made him cry because we have always been so close. He was a great man and father, he would always give all of himself for others no matter what. I’m really going to miss him.

I hope you find strength to make it through the pain or push through it, I still struggle when I think about all him and my mom who died January, 11, 2014, they were separated since I was young! But about how much they have missed! Reach out to people close to you who you trust!

My father took his own life on September 8, 2019. This song already reminded me most of my father even before his act. This song took on a double meaning for me at the moment I learned of his act because I found out 1 week before, without telling him, that I myself was going to become a father (of a son). The video was released (I saw it, wanting to listen to the song beforehand) on September 13, 2019, the very day of his funeral. It remains my favorite song for my father, and now for my 2 grand boys and my little girl. Thank you for the gift Nothing More

I lost my dad 13 years ago when I was 30 and he was 57. He passed away from prostate cancer. I know exactly what you mean with those lyrics , they hit hardest for me as although he always said he was proud of me I never wanted to let him down. He was a good father, not great as he made some terrible mistakes (and I chose to forgive him) but I loved him dearly and we had a very special closeness due to our shared love of music and video games.

@@danieljohn2007 It’s was 22 years ago today we were holding my dad’s funeral. He passed at the hospital after hip surgery, day before his 70th b-day. He was supposed to be released that day to the rehab facility, but after complaining of chest tightness the dose of morphine they administered sealed his fate. It’s just a horrible experience to watch cancer take it’s toll, at least mine was not drawn out like that, I couldn’t imagine dealing there, it’s nice to hear you were able to forgive him too, that says a lot about you.

Not sure if you will ever read this, but this song was used as intended. A musician’s purpose one could say. I was alone…..well someone else was with me. My father. In the icu on life support. I played this song as I held his hands that were just like mine. I watched him pass. It took just about as long as this sad and beautiful song. Thank you 🙏
@thecasualsperspective Жыл бұрын
This is one of the most masterfully crafted pieces of art to exist. It teaches a message, wrestles with a very uncomfortable and painful truth, and although it's sad to lose your father it's your duty to him to uphold the values he instilled in you and never to give up on the pursuit of your dreams. I am a very traditional man. Hard working labor jobs, management, real estate flips, construction, red blooded american raised. Crying isn't a very acceptable behavior amongst men in my family and is generally seen as frowned upon in lieu of a family disaster. I played this song when I was fishing with my father and we both started to tear up. If you have a father who is hard on you, who is strong willed, who is protective of you... please never assume he doesn't love you with all his heart. He is patiently waiting for a time to defend your life even at the cost of his own. He is ever vigilant in ensuring that you are as safe as you can be. That is what people who TRULY CARE about you will do. They don't enable you to be wild and a free spirit. They don't validate your mistakes and wrongdoings or let you "live your life". They try to steer you off the dead-end road before you hit the roadblock and end up OD'd on perc's at a party when you're 19, they don't keep telling you to hit the gas towards the roadblock. They assess the danger and make a judgement call because they love you and want to keep you safe. Hug your fathers, you don't have them forever and as they grow old they may develop Parkinson's or Alzheimer's and it may be hard for them to remember who you are. Enjoy the time you have with them while they're still fully conscious.

Hi. I just had to tell you that I'm in the same situation. My mom was/is the most wonderful, caring, talented woman I've ever known. She's the reason I became a chef, and she's the reason I'm still alive today. She never gave up on me when I was trying, and failing, over and over, to beat alcohol and opiates. I pretty much lost everything but my parents. She's basically gone now. Alzheimer's and a stroke have taken her memory. I'm taking care of her, with my Dad's help, in the house that they have lived in for 50 years. She doesn't remember that she lives there, or that she has a husband and a son. At least I got sober for good before she started her slide! She still says that she's proud of me, but she doesn't know that she's the reason. My point is that Alzheimer's Sucks! She doesn't deserve this. You are NOT alone. ❤🙏 Oh yeah, isn't this song and video incredible! They have another video for the song "Jenny" that hits pretty hard.

@@coryminix4757 you are absolutely correct! I lost custody of my 3 kids 30 years ago & the bullshit that was fed to them by their "realest" mom, that I didn't even know was happening, skewed everything. He cancelled visitation so often I finally had to take him to court to get the Judge to remind him that it was my right! Oh man, it just sucks so very badly, it truly does. I have 7 grandchildren & I have met...1. I have also not been allowed to even know the address of one of my daughters & her family since May of 2016, so yeah, never ever assume. Peace y'all.

This song means so much to me as a Father of two young men. Every time that I listen to it I am reminded of the things that I have failed at and in the same breath all of the things that I have done right. There is no instruction manual that comes with being a dad. It’s all trial and error. The one thing that I have learned throughout the years is love with all that you are. Regrets are going to happen no matter how hard you try. Just never stop loving your children. Thanks to guys of Nothing More for writing a song that touches this old man.

I'm with you brotha. And it hurts even more when everybody loves your son and it turns out he is Just Like YOU......it's a sad world. Going through a similar thing with my 12 year old son. I told him every one can try to change you and make you hate me. It will never take away and erase almost every weekend and more (don't know what goin out is anymore and I wouldn't change that for the world) Nobody else has to know the Truth but you and your son. Because when you're willing to stop breathing for theirs to continue in less than a second... nobody else has any ammo left that can actually damage and "get" to you. I always tell my son...learn from your Dad. And im always talking about my mistakes first. Be smarter...make your road smoother as much as possible. Played drums in bands for years and my son Noah got his "full size" drum set earlier this year and is tearing it up with Trivium songs Bury Tomorrow...LOG...and even WhiteWashed yesterday. He is better now at 12 then I was at 16-18. And I told him that's the goal...let me help you save time and get their a little quicker so maybe you get to enjoy the ride a lot longer than Dad. That's the way it should be...not me being jealous and pissed off and start being a fuckin hypocrite and start worrying and wasting all my time on some fake image thats only holding up the people that compare their lives on social media daily. I always tell my son if I'm not being real with you and I'm not giving you advice from the heart then I'm wasting your time...stuff doesn't seem to work out for me most of the time or for some reason things come out of nowhere and suddenly just pull the rug from right under. One day the words just came out to Noah...."I will live in the dark.....so you can live in the light son". Here a song "Dream Gone Bad" by Killer Be Killed. The last lines that Greg screams are my heart and soul for my son. Your son will always know your heart...not everybody had to like Dad. But he never worried about the fake people that just love to gossip and tear others down. Too busy sharing all these great songs with son before I do croak lol. He'll have anthems that randomly come out and instantly....."Dad's song" will pop in his mind. Those next few minutes and every song you heard shared sang laughed cried are heard/experienced the first time hearing that new song from one of our favorite bands.....that is what keeps us immortal forever. Dead is only what's forgotten...best wishes brotha. Pump those tunes and stay strong....day by day. Enjoy life...it goes by like nothing ☝️

It's so interesting to see what songs toddlers enjoy. I know the first video my daughter ever danced to was safe and sound by capital cities. She wasn't even 2 yet. Then at 4 I got addicted to "sit next to me" by foster the people and it became her favorite song, too. She used to call it "car song" because I always played it in the car. She is 8, now, and it's still one of her favorite songs.

I miss and love u both always, until we meet again, please watch over my little wolf pack and my little one in Heaven . Love mommy and a loving daughter. 😘 ❤

This lyrics and the idea of that song just can't be ignored. Thanks for that masterpiece, thanks for that emotions. Keep going this way. Hello from Russia.

If i listen to music in my native language, my brain basically listens to the vocals so i cant fully focus on the stuff im doing. This was one of the first songs my brain said "hey, whats this... listen to it" and i did..... and cried.... while playing computer games... ^^*
