Ohio State filled out its offensive coaching staff on Wednesday by promoting two coaches from within.
The Buckeyes promoted wide receivers coach Brian Hartline to offensive coordinator and offensive analyst Billy Fessler, rewarding Hartline for his excellence coaching the Buckeyes’ receivers while maintaining continuity at both spots after making an outside hire with the addition of Virginia Tech offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen as offensive line coach.
While Hartline must now prove himself as a primary play caller, Ryan Day’s decision to turn the keys of the offense over to Hartline shows the growth Day has seen from Hartline after he stopped short of delegating offensive play calling duties to Hartline two years ago. And Fessler showed his readiness to be Ohio State’s quarterbacks coach with his work alongside Chip Kelly last season, drawing praise from Will Howard among others for his role in developing the quarterbacks.
Eleven Warriors’ Dan Hope and Andy Anders share their thoughts on the hirings of Hartline and Fessler in this episode of Press Coverage.
