I was really skeptical of GSZ making elves a thiing you could do in Modern. I'm not quite as skeptical after seeing r1g1. Good lordy that was quite the "doing the thing".

As a former Amulet player, I hate to see Amulet lose, but that was SICK. It makes sense that the creature deck gets to kill faster than the artifacts-and-enchantments deck, since creatures are easier to interact with.

Elves was my first deck in extended. I even toiled it out, including two cradles, before joining the military. My biggest mtg regret was trading it away, but it’s what I used to get into modern almost 10 years ago. This makes my heart happy.

after we got leaf crowned visionary, i tried it and quickly realised that you can consistently cast your deck but getting the shaman without black mana is definitely the last tool this deck needed to thrive!!!! r1g1 got me more excited than watching someone twin off i swear!

I started playing real competitive magic (i.e. not kitchen table) during Morningtide, and Standard/Extended elves was one of the first things that I played around with in deck building. Seeing this in action is just great.

I was the round 1 opponent, kept a mid hand against anything go wide and then overboarded in fear of leyline of the void/damping sphere shocking in that overgrown tomb made me think you could be on leyline and going tall/lumra looping felt (in the moment) like the only way I win that wasn't just going off instantly

For the infinite combo, its double devoted Druid and ezuri - pumping the Druids gets you 6 untaps/mana, and the overrun costs 5

I think instead of one of the Shaman of the Pack and one other card, you want 2 Finale of Devastation. It's another tutor in the early game and is just GG when you're shredding with Priest + untappers + a draw engine since the deck can easily make 12+ green mana but black is a choke point

Thanks for taking the deck for a spin! I think Elves ended up in a much better place post-ban but we will see where it ends up settling. Definitely got to see some banger plays and how fun a deck it can be.

I wonder how GSZ ends up in modern. I feel like the gut instinct is elves, a likely place will be in some form of titan deck for extra Azusa/Dryads. Once a more loosely defined meta comes around (and control decks become more firm on what interaction/sweepers they want), it will really see if the "put your whole deck on the table and see what happens" archetype works. Elves really hurts when the format is creature hostile or bowmasters are everywhere. As long as there isn't an obscene amount of BM, pyroclasm/anger effects, or heaven forbid supreme verdicts, I could see this being fringe and/or FNM viable.

r2 g1 not only can you get the priest down, but you can actually dump your entire hand if you lead on heritage. t2 dwynen's > tap for 3 > wirewood > pickup dwynens to untap heritage > cast dwynen's > tap for 3 > cast priest > cast quirion. You'll be going into t3 with with 23 mana available

In round 3 when your opponent casts needle, can't you use symbiote in response? It's 1 per turn and it was not your turn anymore, i'm confused

I think in R3 G1 there was a deterministic win by getting elite instead of eladamri, bouncing that 2 times, generating Mana and a token in the process each time and then activate Ezuri twice and get in with Ezuri, The racoon and priest of titania Also, this league made me want to buy the deck and get in myself, this looks so fun

33:10 you should have chorded for the Elvish Visionary. This way, you could have drawn three cards as you had two simbiontes, generating mana with the priest on the way

I think an elf deck where elvish archdruid and priest of titania comboes with umbral mantle is the way to go. It's infinite mana which also makes any elves that taps to be as big as you want. If you add any elf with activated abilities they also go infinately. Fill the rest of the deck however you wish, lord effects being my favourite. Also card draw engine or two would probably help. It could play the fair aggro plan most of the time, and once in a while it just goes infinite. Sort of like what splinter twin does.

I think against amulet you're meant to bring in endurances. Most lists play aftermath analyst, lotus field and echoing deeps lines that copy primetime with mirrorpool.
