Ill also say this again. The only reason Joey has guest played with the bands he has, is due to his popularity. And take note how each band he's guest drummed for has rather simplistic drumming. This is why you'll never see him drum for a worth while band like Meshuggah or Benighted. He'll remain a gimmick, nothing more

@jpocalips1 Very well said. The music of today I think does not compare to what I grew up with. I came about in the early 80's when Dio was becoming a big star after he left Sabbath. HOLY DIVER was one of the 1st albums I ever bought and I listen to it religously. Butterfly Ball was a little before my time but, I love anything Dio has ever done. I would have been about 3 years old when this came out. Who knows, I might have seen this as a child. I can't remember. I love Ronnie's work.

That, along with the examples of other artists he's preformed with, kind of makes it hard to NOT think you're talking about stage presence. No shit people can like what they like. That was never in question. But that doesn't change the fact that some people like undeniable shit. After reading on I find that maybe I was judging some of todays music unfairly, I was wrong in saying they were all lame, their are in fact some incredible musicians out their, but I do feel many are only going through the motions, being a studio musician for over 25yrs. I find many of the up and coming players, tend to over riff, I find that many times a few notes in a solo played from the heart and with feeling can have a much larger impact on the listening audience, past reflects future.

Let's rank it on a 1 - 10 scale, 10 being as good as Neil Peart, thus a 6 would be about average. A nu-metal drummer would be roughly a 3, maybe a 4.
