Great band but Ashton struggled performing live. I personally like the album. If you could have added Coverdale to line up it would have been interesting to see how far they could go after Purple.

everyone quibbling over they are 80% rock and 20% jazz, or vice versa, fusion, pop. What's in a name? Putting something in a 'genre' imposes limits on it. It's just music and genres or labels cannot possibly capture what the music is, just itself. Better to not know the plot of a movie in advance, if it is good it will tell you its story with no explanation needed, same with great music. All labels are after the fact. I work at a non-commercial radio station, where formats if any are left up to the DJ of any particular program and flexible, so picking by genre is way less important. After a while you stop thinking in those terms and more in terms of energy, proportion, balance, and groove. This will be on the show Tuesday! I saw them at a university gymnasium in 1971 as a young drummer. 53 years later, I hear it and it is even better for my experiences.

This album cover as the thumbnail drew me in - I thought, "That's the Malice in Wonderland cover! Whoever has THIS in their mix is a music lover!" RIP The Mighty Jon Lord!

I bought this LP in 1970 after hearing Promised Land on the radio. The song should've been a hit. I loved the album and always wondered what happened to the band.

The wife and I once stayed at a motel in Cortland NY. I had to get a pic of the Dio Way street sign. A bit disappointing because it's only a short service road. Ronnie deserves better! 🤘
