I think a more effective version of the mk3 would have one row of the steam cannons on one button, and then the other row on that button + another button so you can go at mk2 speeds normally, and then boost to mk3 speeds when necessary

MK2 Advanced Jet Engine no longer works. I built a test following the video starting at around 2:42 and it's completely unstable. The steam cannons vibrate violently, fly off (even without turning them on), and fly around the surrounding area vibrating all still together like a swarm of metal bees from hell. lol

I just build one from scratch to see what might be wrong with them however they still work for me. I don't know if you included it and it might be barely visible in the video but you need to set the central ballast's mass between the water cannons to a value above 1.00, better 1.20. Then it should be a whole lot more stable. If the central ballast's mass remains at the default 0.50 value it will indeed go nuts. At 3:03 you can see how the ballast's mass gets adjusted.

I didn't know you could do this... Then again, I don't know the difference between a catapult and a trebuchet, and I struggle to build either... I did know that if you set the water cannons facing another block on the build so the water hits it, it pushed the block it hits (and the whole structure with it, including the water cannons)

Now you just need to only use pivoting surfaces instead of flight blocks to steer and you have a proper jet ^v^

Casual Bird i would actually like to use them but i guess i‘m just used to flight blocks. Also for VTOL planes i need to use them because pivoting surfaces are not as efficient in slow flight.

Heh, funny story, after making that comment I tried just that, incorporating your engine designs into my existing planes. So far I've been unable to make a successful flying machine with the engines, specifically the Mk2. They are so heavy they overwhelm my current design of landing gear, reducing all ground movement to a very slow crawl I couldn't take off from. And when I did get off the ground by assisted means, the compound engines got me going so fast that the flap mechanisms were overwhelmed and couldn't remain steady. I shall keep trying, because I like how these look much better than having a bunch of individual steam cannons spaced around the aircraft, but I don't know how to handle having so much weight in the very back like that >v

Noice. Most of my planes have either lots of wheels at the back or none, but they also aren't that agile on the ground beacause of the heavy engines. Maybe you could try building a new plane instead of putting the engines on a existing one because that might also help you to adjust the landing gear and the flap mechanisms from the beginning.

I did try making several new flyers from scratch, I couldn't find a way to make the flaps strong enough, doubling up the pistons didn't make the mechanism any stronger. I'll keep seeing what I can do but so far it's not looking good

Rick Renton There is an ingame key map for every machine in advanced building tools. However the best way to get them fly properly would be to assign your own keys because they are optimised for my laptop‘s keyboard.

Did you increase the mass of the central ballast as in 3:04 for MK2 or 7:01 for MK3? If not adjusted the engine will start to wobble and explode.
