In the South (Alassio) begins with a breathtaking surge of energy, a visceral feeling of elevation that propels us into a dizzying, almost cinematic expanse. It is difficult to imagine a more vibrant celebration of life and vitality. The exhilarating feeling of the outdoors that comes from the gloriously beautiful surroundings with streams, flowers, distant snow-capped hills and mountains in one direction and the blue of the Mediterranean in the other. It all comes to life with a bold virtuosity that might make you think of a Strauss tone poem. Later, a shimmering, nocturnal serenade emerges in the solo viola. This melody contains echoes of a Neapolitan love song since the Edgar family is on vacation in Italy. The manuscript of In the South contains also quotations from Tennyson's The Daisy and Byron's Childe Harold. Amid all the high-flying exuberance and shimmering colors, there are extraordinary moments of quiet, solitary analysis and great nostalgia. Music is much more than a representation of Italy. It is a vibrant drama that celebrates the power and majesty of the orchestra. For anecdote, « Alassio » is mainly known because there is one of the longest sandy beaches in the east of the Liguira region on the Riviera di Ponete. Like every good thing has an end. *Lucien*

First time I've seen a conductor cough in the middle of his own performance.
