Elgato's new Facecam Neo offers a more "normie" and "budget" friendly 1080p60 webcam at just $99.99 versus the $149.99 of the Facecam Mk.2 - however, I actually believe that the Neo is the better webcam at this point.

I think that's quite impressive in 2024 we don't have webcams as good as phone cams. They literally have more space to do a better cam, but the quality is never that impressive. Meanwhile a Anker 2K/60FPS cam has more quality per value than any big brand one, like ElGato, Logitech or Razer. On the other hand the Anker 4K/30FPS is not good as it's predecessor - actually it's quite disapointing like any other I've tested so far, compared to a e.g. iPhone 11ish cam.

Yep I’m literally dealing with this right now. Trying to replace my iPhone 15 Pro with a dedicated webcam but nothing is as good. I just don’t want to not have access to my phone while streaming. Going to try the Facecam Pro and see how that compares.

Well as far as I understand, the cameras on phones have a dedicated connection to the processor, making them cheaper and higher quality, where as webcams must compress their video and send it through USB, thus why their quality is lower This is also why the new snapdragon laptop cameras look so good compared to like pretty much every laptop, because their image is not compressed, but rather sent directly to the processor So unless we get a new port that is for video input on our computers, we'll be stuck with meh quality

Idk if you've already bought a webcam. But look at the Obsbot Tiny 2/Tiny 2 lite. They look significantly better than Elgato's stuff to my eye.​@@jenks_TV

Just bought the Neo based off this review. My first webcam purchase and have to say, your videos are really great. In depth with good stress tests and honest reviews. I watched a few of your others before pulling trigger. Used your link to make the purchase. Thanks for sharing knowledge! Will definitely come back here when the time comes to make my next purchase :)

The green tint that you mention is something I've noticed as well with a lot of webcams, but especially Elgato's. I guess you can adjust that in post if the software can't control the tint. For the price it's damn good either way.

Honestly the original Facecam is better, and nowadays can be found pretty cheap, while they last. Its fixed focus is fine, and avoids the hunting/pulsing of "auto" focus. And its color is better than the Mark II in my opinion.

Not sure if I'll really want to go for the Neo. My feeling is that it's just a cheapened-down and inferior version of a good older product, just like Razer did with Kiyo X vs Kiyo Pro. Got the old Facecam and it's super bloody awesome for talking head scenes. Fixed focus with high depth of field means no AF pumping. Excellent auto exposure that works in low light (though it gets noisy a.f.). Nice configuration options that are stored in camera's flash memory and I had not a single case where I had to set it up again because settings got botched.

For me, I never want to focus on close-up objects; the auto-focus slowness is really not good. I find it distracting when I'm talking to someone and they are going in and out of focus, or are simply just out of focus completely for a while. I would rather have a fixed focus, a manual focus, or a rapid auto-focus than this.

You can turn it off Obviously everyone would prefer faster autofocus to slower autofocus lol

@@EposVox Thanks for the reply! I'm not in the market for it, but if I were, I would want to know whether having turned autofocus off, it remembers that setting through power cycles. Feel free not to reply again though :)

I just tested and posted a review of this webcam, but I noticed a strange thing where the camera made my hairline a little red around the fringes. I thought that maybe it was just my camera, but I think I'm seeing the same effect in your review. I didn't love the auto settings and found the camera overall to be pretty good, but just curious if you saw the "red fringing"? most other reviews have people with hats on, bald heads, or pretty dark/thick hair. Your hair and beard color seems to change pretty radically per scene in your video. I've reviewed about 100 webcams, and this is the first time I've seen this, so I'm watching other reviews to see if it's just me or my particular unit.

I'm a bit of an Elgato fanboy (they quoted me for the 4k X capture card a couple slides down from yours) and I'm heavily invested in their ecosystem for my streaming setup. I currently have (2) Logitech Brio 4K webcams - one for my face and one doing and overhead downward shot to show my hands while gaming and for doing unboxing videos. The auto-focus on the BRIO is terrible and every time I move my hands off the keyboard, it takes it a while to refocus while it's pulsing. If I were to get two Elgato cams, which would you recommend? I don't want to say cost isn't an issue as I don't want to set money on fire. But, if the best option is (2) Face Cam Pros, I'd go that way. But I'm thinking an Mk.2 might work for what I need. My shot doesn't need to be wide angle, I just want to be able to control everything from my stream deck XL. Any advice?

Got a Canon M50 MK2 used to be my webcam. Not much more than an Iris or Facecam HD and tons more quality and flexibility I was honestly just not happy wkth the webcam quality.

I just added a comment (a question) under a video of you that was published... 8 years ago. Fearing that you would not consult the comments about such old videos, I paste my comment-question here. The title of your video was : PILLOWS ON MY HEAD // Dekoni Platinum Leather Ear Pads Review (DT990). Here is, in copy paste, my comment and my question : "I didn't quite understand your final verdict: if I replace my original Beyerdynamic velvet pads (DT 990 pro) for "standard Dekoni", will I lose as you say the opening of the sound stage and artificially increase the bass (decrease the "high-end" effect of sound imaging) or not? On the other hand, you seem to recommend Dekoni which are not made of velvet (for easier cleaning) but you add that they will be warmer. So I'm hesitating now. Precision: I bought my headphones DT 990 pro, new, about 8 months ago".
