Elias' story part 85

Today we have only a quite short part but story will continue on Monday when there will be more :)
This time I left all Ida parts out because I felt the Ida-Isabella thing is not anymore relevant when it comes to Elias' story. I will post it as an extra sometimes this weekend.

Related to the topical hockey theme in the story line we actually found out today that Ronny and Petteri are now playing ice hockey together. Not only in the same team but in the same line as well. Apparently Petteri was first playing there and Ronny only joined recently probably because of Petteri :D

that's so funny, I was watching those interviews again today and Petteri actually was saying that the kissing scenes were sometimes challenging but that some scenes that were already filmed but have not been aired were even more difficult - and yes, I also remember Ronny talking about the crying scenes being his personal challenge!

What I think is really hard is the fact that spoken and written Finnish differ way more than the spoken and written forms of any other language I've ever studied. I once overheard someone saying that something broke in her "olkkari," and it took me a long time to realize she was using the puhekieli term for "olohuone" ... that kind of thing happens a lot, that I'll learn the official word for something, and then I find people have invented some related but not really recognizable word for it xD

I remember when the interview of the boys was released on fall and Ronny was talking about filming crying scenes so I have started to think maybe soon we could see Lari breakdown after he realizes he will either lose Elias or ice hockey unless he finds a way to have them both somehow.

If you don't mind me adding a thought, I've been studying Finnish for 8 months, and while I found it difficult to remember words at first because the vocabulary is so unique, the grammar is actually incredibly logical and simpler than in many other languages, including Romance languages. Finnish has fewer verb tenses, and although the system of suffixing nouns and adjectives is something to get used to at first, the rules aren't too hard, especially once you're used to them. I like Finnish!

Ronny has learned a lot since the show aired. His character has grown a lot showing how his able to understand and cope with what he wants. Yes I agree that it is a sacrifice somehow to want both a relationship and/or ice hockey but its up to him to decide what he wants and what the writers of the show decide next about his character. Having an ideal relationship & maybe a career is what most people want but sometimes things don't turn that way.

Yeah if he went to "Canada" they would shoot it in Helsinki for sure :D Though actually they have really shot some episodes of this show outside Finland too in past. At least in Vilnius and Tenerife. And in Finland they have shot episodes in Lapland too for example. Would be fun if they went to Tenerife again, I loved those episodes they shot in there :)

I agree. The top comment on the last episode was Lari decides to go to Italy with Elias instead of the hockey camp. That's very romantic but unrealistic. Lari can't miss this opportunity. Probably thousands of kids play ice hockey in Finland, and only a very few get to go professional.

Yes that's exactly what those endings are :) But we do have extra words too, it depends on a case. But you can build crazy combos with those endings like "järjestelmällistyttämättömyydelläänsäkäänköhän". The basic word here is "järjestelmällisyys" and the rest is endings combined. :D It is crazy to even try to translate it but it's something like 'not even by doing it in his lack of systematic way" or something like that cos I can't even figure it perfectly out in Finnish lol :D

Yes :) Petteri plays Elias and Ronny plays Lari. They are straight in real life but good friends and now they are playing ice hockey together :) And the part 86 is already up, it aired today and I subbed it, go to my channel to see it.

I agree, Light! When Elias acted kinda petulant about the Rome vs Hockey Career issue, I thought "Dude! What's wrong with you?! Hockey is Lari's dream and a career he is very gifted in!" So I was glad when he came around later. However, I don't understand Lari's look of dread when Elias wanted to accompany him to Ottowa. I wish the show would give their SL more time.

. Why should Lari sacrifice his dreams of becoming a NHL player for Elias? It doesn't make sense they weren't together that long. I get that Elias is upset but Lari has to think about his own happiness as well. Also, Lari hasn't come out because of his hockey career. Elias should not be surprised dating a closeted man means you go back into the closet.

Yes actually many things in Finnish language are really simple so in that way the learning shouldn't be too hard. But the difficulty is in the fact that Finnish words and grammar differ so much from Romanic or German languages which makes it quite laborious to learn. But one can learn Finnish perfectly if one works hard enough. For example Roman Schatz is German born author who only moved to Finland and learned Finnish when he was adult and his Finnish is excellent, I would say perfect :)

I agree with this. Of course, Elias is in the throes of 'young love' and it probably feels like the world will end if Lari goes away, even for a few weeks. But Elias needs to ease up a bit. You know that old saying- if you love someone set them free. If they come back to you it's meant to be. If not- hunt them down in Ottawa! haha... Seriously, though, I'm with Lari on this one.

It doesn't have to be either/or. Lari could find a way to have both a professional ice hockey career and Elias, if that's what he really wants. And if that's what he really wants, then Elias will support him.

The flat acting is a Finnish culture related thing since we are simple in showing emotions and speaking, yet of course this is a soap opera so the acting isn't always worth an Oscar :D I think Elias is just one of those teens who like to plan future in very early stage. I think most teens are quite lost and just live in the moment unlike Elias. Everyone knows about birth control and condoms here, they teach us that in school, already when we were quite small like 8 yrs old.

I agree with the fact that Elias feelings are not taken into consideration but its no way to call him a doormat. I feel that when it comes to love both people in the relationship need to consider each other and each others wants and needs. They both knew that when they became boyfriends that they would have to sacrifice a few things, like being secretive about their relationship, not holding hands in public & kiss in public. They both had to sacrifice a lot for their relationship.

I did just that I chose my lover over a family who would not accept the situation. I never regretted it and love that guy as much now as then. I played competitive sport and swam for my State but it was no contest I loved David more.

missfinlandia i noticed that in the finnish language they ad the syllable( ta ) at the end of a word.. lari for example larista, the translation from english would be "about lari" .. i got this right or wrong?is this called desinence? thanks

Yeah that's probably the hardest part cos people shorten and modify words in spoken language so much or use other words instead of the official ones. Like "kylpyhuone" is "kylppäri" and "makuuhuone" is "makkari" too :D And using "lätkä" instead of "jääkiekko", "faija" instead of "isä" or "frendi" instead of "ystävä". I can imagine how hard it must be for foreigners to learn...

I understand why Lari wouldn't want Elias with him to Canada (if he's accepted to play there) .. he doesn't want Elias to leave everything he has behind just for him. Lari is just looking after him. It doesn't mean he wouldn't want Elias to come there. But he doesn't want Elias to get there without any kind of plan for himself, like what would he be doing while he's playing hockey all the time? without any friends and family? at first, without a job or place to study also ?

Larias Please don't split up. Lari does love Elias. I can tell, so that just makes it harder for him to choose between his dream and the boy/man/whatever he loves. I love Elias, but he needs to understand that they are just kids. He is planning ahead of time, he should just live in the moment while it lasts. Because love doesn't always beat everything. They should enjoy the present and think about the future when they know what they really want. In my opinion, they might love each other now but

Lari will be in this show at least the whole spring that's all I know so either he doesn't go to Canada or then they will show his life in Canada. I don't know that. All I know he will not leave the show in near future :)

I think Lari must feel ambivalent about hockey and Elias. It's hard for him to see how he could have both. He must be feeling pressure to choose. Elias is ready to talk about future and options, but Lari isn't. Maybe Lari never expected to fall in love like this and now he feels guilty, because he's having doubts about going to Ottawa. But he can't admit to himself that hockey isn't everything to him, because then his world would just fall apart. And it's already falling apart because of Elias.

I think Elias shouldn't suffocate Lari much I mean the latter might misunderstood it might end up damaging their relationship. I'm with Lari that they should enjoy for now what's in their relationship and let things of tomorrow worry itself until it happens... maybe the absence will test their relationship. Also this might be Elias time to repair his relationship with Ida if it can still be repaired that way he can help Ida get help!

I don't quite agree. Lari has had a lifelong dream and idea of what he wants from his future, it is unfair to expect he would give all his dreams for Elias. Yes he loves Elias too but would you give up on something you love for something else you love? Lari has very tough situation where he feels the two things he cares the most can't fit together. Imagine if you had to chose for example between your boyfriend in other side of the world or living with your family?

Yes I agree with you but don't you think that Elias already being treated like a door mat by Ida as well because how in the past it was always about her and we never see her have any concern for her bff but when she finds out when Elias is with her ex, she again feels betrayed & thinks of herself. I think that Elias will eventually make up his mind about what he really wants. Besides its Lari and Elias' first real relationship they've been in that has lasted this long.

Well wait a second, Lari has said he cannot come out because of his father and the hockey team would not accept him. Lari is being smart here who knows how long his relationship with Elias is going to last. Why should Lari make himself vulnerable for a guy he just started to date? Coming out isn't some magical experience for some people. For some people like Lari there is a lot to lose by coming out he is thinking about himself and his career first as he should.

Elias has become a doormat. I am not saying that this is his true love what I am saying is that whereas Elias thought of both with Italy, Lari only thought of himself. This has been an ongoing pattern with Lari and Elias needs a boyfriend who at least considers his feelings. I would like to see him go to Italy and come back with a nice goodlooking Italian for a mate. Lari needs to know that Elias can go his own way too.

hmm and yeah from the most logical point of view it is a bad move. But as a gay guy myself, hmm I dunno it is pretty difficult to meet someone you really love who also loves you back. It's rare for straight couples but even more rare for gay couples. Thus if I'm Elias I wouldn't give Lari up either.
