Let's meet an ethnic minority of Russia - the Yakut who live in the coldest inhabited of the Earth. We will get to know their culture, get to know the locals and hear their life stories and concerns about Global warming. Global warming isn't felt much for us, but it is already very palpable and visible in the Russian Arctic.
Time codes:
0:00 Welcome to the Far North!
2:10 What is the "warm" temperature for the Yakut people?
3:47 How does the coldest city function during winter?
7:05 What winter activities do locals have here in Yakutsk?
9:22 Ice bathing. How to prepare for it?
13:31 Yakut language
14:44 Climate change, permafrost and heatwaves in Yakutia

There's a hypothesis that people must better cooperate in colder climates in order to survive and as a result, sociopathy is far less common in areas that require community for the group to survive. The reverse is that people who have evolved along the equator or more temperate climates have less need of cooperation so sociopathy is more common.

James I live like i mentioned in my comment above live in an isolated area , a bit just me myself and I. With covid they said keep a distance of 2 meters between people. The nearest person I had was 15km. When you live in these worlds you don’t think of politics , tv media, or hate as you got no time doing it. My life is survive be happy and love thy neighbor . 😊❄️🏔 as that neighbor may be a different color country but that neighbor could save your life . You think there are people that live on an ice cube , never switch off there car, put there meat 🥩 out the window . Etc and smile . No politics . The world has to learn to smile even if the sky is grey. 🏔❄️❄️❄️😊🐻

My friend once told me that when she lived in Russia, she had no place to put her milk & other groceries that needed refrigerating. So she would just keep them inside the garage because it was so equivalent to a refrigerator with the air. Her milk was just fine!

I study in St Petersburg. When I moved here from my hometown I lived in an old dormitory, where we had no fridges. We used to put our food in plastic bags and hang it outside the window. However, we couldn't keep the food for many days during summer and early autumn. So we found some girls, who would give us an old fridge for free, if we could clean it ourselves. Ironically, when we finally cleaned the fridge, almost all the students were moved to a new dormitory with a modern fridge in every room. Still, the old refrigerator served us well for few days. By the way, the coldest temperature I have ever experienced in my hometown (Vologda) was -46 degrees Celsius. It was quite unusual, because before that the temperature rarely fell below -30 degrees. Nevertheless, in russia all the houses in cities and towns are connected to the central heating system, so that wasn't a problem at all.
