In Episode 75 of Whisky in SV I did a blind tasting of the latest Batch of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B524 against the highly venerated Batch C923 from last year. The new batch is not yet releases on the west coast so I had to pay secondary to get it to my door from the East Coast. I in advertently caused a shit storm at the store. I bought my back up C9 23. It wasn’t supposed to be on the shelf and I happened to see it and snatched it right away. It was literally as I’m walking out when the manager came up and said that one bottle wasn’t supposed to be on the shelf and it was promised to someone else and now they were going to have to break the bad news to some unfortunate soul. I did feel sorry for the guy, he didn’t know. But I kept walking…

You bought it from the shelf fair-and-square. It was poor customer service (to you!) for the manager to approach you after the fact, and try to guilt you out of it. Good on ya for keeping it.

I picked up a B524 earlier last week. Finally tried it last weekend and went and bought a backup bottle yesterday. Amazing batch

Btw I also prefer it to the c923 or at least stands up to it. I’m actually kind of happy C923 was so hyped up because people will die on that hill defending it and allow us to buy up all of this batch 😂

The B524 might be my favorite barrel yet. I cracked it last night without review influence and it was outstanding, super delicious. Great finish. Liked it so much I went and got another bottle this morning. Spot on review

Passed on C batch last year to grab something else. Not this time, grabbed a B batch last week. Never passing on any other ECBP.

Could not find C923, but I think B524 and A123 are two of the best recent batches of ECBP. I think this is definitely a backup bottle batch.
