AU Explanation: Back in season 3 when all the Upside down stuff was going on, the party was able to successfully unflay Billy, but the way they did it is different. The party trapped Billy and knocked him unconscious, using the method they did with Will in S2. After that when Mike was alone, he decided that Billy wouldn’t be missed, his earlier actions of knocking Billy unconscious awoke his thrill for hurting people so he went after him again. This time killing him. This was the first kill and would be the only one for months. The Byers family didn’t move, as Hopper was found alive and El was able to completely close the gate. Mike’s hunger for killing stirs up again, his urge for violence. While at school, the new girl flirts with Will, sending Mike into silent rage. Mike although confused of his feelings towards Will, decides she the perfect target for his rage. He later kills her, making Will witness it with Mike in his Ghostface costume. When he unmasks himself Will goes noticeably pale. However Will found he liked the adrenaline rush he got from watching the kill. Mike tells Will he was the one who killed Billy in an attempt to get Will on his side. Will asks how he did it and listens intently as Mike describes all he did, the way it felt, the need to do it again. Will wants to experience the feeling, and agrees to be Mikes partner for his next kill. A week later Mike shows up at Wills door, two ghost face costumes in bags. They kill a old man at the edge of town, Will loving the feeling of the kill. They became partners from then on. However, Will never forget the way Mike said the words “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls” the way Mike would hold his hand and jerk it away the second someone came into the room. How while he was missing he fell in love with El, how he said the day he found El was the best day of his life. Will was bitter, but he knew how to wait. Mike killed Max, Will helped kill Nancy, Will attacked Dustin , Robin got away. Mike killed Gareth, Will killed Eddie. After all was said and done, Will made sure it had looked like there was only ever one ghostface, Mike had told Will that no matter what El was off limits. While Mike and El were alone at Hopper’s old cabin, Will snuck in the same way Mike did, through the window one always left unlocked for Mike. Will watched as they kissed deciding he can get his revenge. Will in his ghost face costume continues on to kill both El and Mike staging their bodies as if Mike had attempted to kill El and her fighting back resulting in the death of both of them. Will satisfied with himself continued on with his day, pretending to be upset about what happened to Mike and El, comforting his friends and family. He was a good liar after all.
