A lot of people get frustrated with birds and other pests that are constantly attacking their garden. But the truth is, there's a way to discourage them without killing them - permanently. That means no more pesky bird droppings all over your yard or plants, and it still allows you to enjoy your beautiful garden! Allow me to introduce what I call the "Bird Bozo"! Be sure to tag #BirdBozo on IG if you create one.

We lost everything this year due to crows, all apricots, nectarines, apples, pears , and they even ate the avocados. We tried netting but hurt the trees, reflective tape didn't help. We set a bird bath and some seed to help give them something else to eat and for fluids. My next is owls and a flying hawk decoy. I'm going to win this battle, worked way too hard to loose my harvest .

That's such a bummer 😣. The problem with adding any kind of food or water is that you increase the "carrying capacity" of the flock and allow for more birds than would otherwise be there. One thing to try is to put out alternate more desirable food/water sources just before you harvest. Although if you're growing lots like it sounds like, that will be a bunch of consecutive months 🤦‍♂️ 😂

Nice video! I live in central WA State, and we have a number of cherry orchards here. I have one nearby and they use some kind of canon that goes off at unspecified times. It must be somewhat successful as they have been using this for quite a number of years. When we no longer hear the booms, we know that cherry harvest has ended. :-)

I grew chickpeas for the first time last year and they were doing phenomenal. Every evening I would spray my garden down with a soap water solutions. Well one week we had back to back rain for about 3-4 days in a row so there was no point in spraying and by the following day every last chickpea was gone. At first I thought it might have been a squirrel until I saw some of the branches being used for a nest :(

We have Mousebirds, a few years back they came in and completely stripped all leaves from my passion fruit vines. The passion fruit was pretty well established at that point, fruiting a decent amount. Last year they did the same to my beans and a few weeks ago they massacred a bunch of my brassica's. They just come in and strip everything but the stalks.

The birds are mainly a problem with my Santa Rosa plums - there’s always a percentage that gets ruined by them every year. I’ll definitely be trying your suggestions this week. The most irritating award, however, goes to the local squirrels who got 100% of my beloved lemon guava crop last year before I had a chance to even taste one. If you have any ideas for dealing with squirrels, I’m all ears… Thanks for the great videos…

The catbird is the worst where im at. People told me "ahh you can net your blueberries when they're starting to ripen" NOPE because the catbirds will eat the flowers before its even a blueberry. They've wiped out my entire blueberry bushes when just flowers. Its ceazy. And then the bees that mostly polinate them are the carpenter bees. They're a huge bee so most bird netting isn't big enough for them to squeeze through the net. Im thinking of using like a mesh rope netting next year

I have a lot of song birds in my area. I planted blackberry plants and the birds were getting every berry just as it reached peak ripeness. I resorted to reflective tape, cd's, aluminum pie plates hung so a cd would swing and hit it and make a fairly loud noise, and lastly I got four colorful rubber snakes that I move around every other day. Not only have I not had a single berry damaged since doing this, I also notice that no squirrels or chipmunks go any where near my plants. They used to be big trouble digging up the roots of the plants.I think it is the combination of items that keeps the animals and birds confused. I need to get one of those big eyed inflatable things.

I have heard that you should put your bird tape Horizontal not vertical. As the wind spins the tape it looks like a streaking animal flying across their field of vision. Attach both ends to something like two branch spans and let the wind work its magic. Kind of like crape paper streamers. Don't know if it works, but thats what I have heard.

Birds droppings are dangerous for humans. Aviant flu is present again in the U. S. I use filament fishing wire to string around between two movable poles for outdoor string lights. You can criss cross the fishing lines or drape them vertically and move it around. Also it seems they don't like blue plastic store bags. Also I throw fake snakes on top of my shed and outdoor attached slanted porch roof. Haven't seen them prancing around.

I have a neighbor that used to put bread and water on the ground for birds. She attracted rats, birds, squirrels, and foxes. She had so many rats that they were running around during the daytime. She had 14 rat burrows in her backyard. We asked her to stop putting bread out because it was attracting so many animals plus the birds would leave her shady yard and would come to our sunny yard and leave bread everywhere. She stopped putting bread in the back. She then covered the railings of her front deck with rice. The birds were going nuts and she even got a woodpecker eating her deck. I asked her to please stop putting rice on the railings because it was falling and attracting animals. Plus she was getting a fly problem in her front yard. So she stopped putting it on the rail and just put piles on the ground. I asked her to please lower the amount of food because it's too many birds. She said "I pay the mortgage, so I can do whatever I want from the house to the curb." Now we have 30 to 40 birds hanging out in the bushes, on the power lines, and on the light cables of our new porch and they are pooping everywhere. I'm not sure how to get rid of them. And she refuses to lower the amount of feeding or stop. I have the pokey stuff on the fence, but I don’t know what to do about the power line and light cables. I tried the ultrasonic stuff, spraying them with the hose, hitting drums, hitting cymbals, hitting cowbells, clapping, electronic whistles, and even a megaphone with a siren. None of that worked.

That sounds like an avian nightmare! Like the Hitchcock movie "Birds" and "Psycho" rolled into one. I think you're doing what you can. One option is to contact the city if there is a code issue with that kind of wildlife feeding. Bummer that the neighbor doesn't see it as the issue it apparently is

That's the worst! Are you also in SoCal? It's so wild that we've got these parrots here from that escape from a pet store decades ago in Pasadena or wherever it was.

Robins are the only birds that eat fruit, no other birds do, bluejays, cardinals, sparrows don’t do any damage.

I should make a bunch of bird bozos for people. I'd be great to create some sort of device that is randomized and acts like a living creature

I've dealt with woodchucks, which are infinitely worse than birds, but deer are infinitely worse than woodchucks. They are the top nemesis to any grower. Farmers _hate_ them. I knew a commercial grower back in the People's Republic of MA who had to put up an electric fence and smear peanut butter on it. One lick, and they find another food source. Deer not only eat everything that's not nailed down, but they trample the crap out of everything else. As an added bonus, the males rub their antlers on the younger trees, strip the bark, and kill the tree. Farmers lose thousands! Deer are the bane of so many backyard gardeners. For all the pests we encounter here, I'm grateful deer aren't one of them!

Bozos definitely worked, but I'd update with one MAJOR change. Use metal conduit instead of PVC for the frame. It has way less flex and is more durable.

I c u have poles in your garden. Why not tie string to the poles & hang your reflective tape on that string? Cost effective & easy

Birds destroying fruit (not eating it, just pecking it) that we've worked hard to cultivate and nurture is annoying at best. Dissuading them from messing the harvest up is a minor reaponae
