Hi Daniel! Thanks so much for the message and sorry about the delay in getting back with you! If you poke through my videos you'll find all kinds of answers to the most common questions. For most of my mobiles, I use a 28-30 gauge metal. It's thin enough to keep the mobiles light and allow for handcutting of the metal, yet durable enough to last for generations. Happy mobile making!

how do you make the holes?

Hi Sandy! Great question. I just use a regular drill with a drill bit that is rated for metal. The thin gauge of metal is easy to drill through, so it's pretty straightforward. You can see an example of me drilling in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaiXc3ucqqZqrdU

Hey Troy! I use magic - lots of magic - to get the holes in the blades. Um, nope. I use a drill with bit size just slightly larger than whatever gauge of wire I'm using for the arms. It'll leave a burr around the edges which I then sand off. As for spacing - even after all these years - I still eyeball it.
