This TR6 got a nice upgrade with an Advance Auto Wire electrical panel, but there were some issues with it, so let's see if we can fix them and make everything work as it should. While we are under the dash let's install the new air ducts as well.

Hey Elin! Thanks so much for looking after my car. As you can imagine, it holds much sentimental value to me. My only regret is not having your contact to bring it to you in the first place! Cheers, Dave

Excellent job Elin, looks much better! Appreciate you had to work with what you had, but I prefer the approach I took with my MGB which was to use the original harness but add a generic kit car fuse and relay board, holds 10 fuses and 6 relays. I also bought a cheap used 2nd harness from eBay and stripped it so I could use all the correct colours for the modifications. However not all Triumph wiring is rubbish- I have owned my Stag for 18 years and no wiring issues at all.

I had that problem with the horn on an Alfa 33. Horn worked fine when the steering lock was engaged, but not the rest of the time.

That not a shop TV that’s a Home Theater! Great video! I’ve always stayed away from wiring under the dashboard. Gives me nightmares!

Blimey Elin.. That was a snake pit .. Good on you for sorting it out. When I was in the trade I tried to avoid 'under dash' work. If ever I got lumbered with it, afterwards I'd have to go and exercise by standing up straight with both my arms employed . One supporting a pint , the other operating a slot machine. Looking forward to you 'springing' into action on the next episode 😅

Triumph experience had the same issue of the horn working with key off but not on this week. Now we all know that the steering lock is a ground.

British Wiring in Bally, PA has OEM style wiring harnesses for these cars. They also sell the original style connectors. I've used them to renew several British wiring harnesses.

Another very good video. Whenever I see someone doing electrical work on an old British car I always recommend a book by Rick Astley. It is titled Classic British Car Electrical Systems. It is a great resource. There is also a companion book that concentrates just on MGB. Astley’s books are very thorough and includes colour diagrams and lots of troubleshooting ideas. I do believe that Astley is from Ontario, . I missed if you got the four way flasher fixed. You started with a mess and cleaned it up nicely. A much safer car now. BTW the horn on my GT6 only works with the key on and the same with the brake lights. From factory like that.

Just a heads up - there are some discrepancies in the Autowire wiring diagram for the TR4A (involving the light switch). Apparently it’s depending on when the car was built, and for which market, as not all cars have this discrepancy (mine does). So be alert when following these old wiring systems.

Hey Elin, in this configuration, I'm guessing that the starter relay is part of the 'power block', but where is the feed for the coil taken from? Is there still a ballasted wire from the starter relay as well as a 'cold start' boost cable directly from the starter motor?
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties Жыл бұрын
They actually replaced the coil with a 12v and junked the ballast wire, but it is possible to be hooked up with the ballast wire in place. I will show more in my next video

I like the new monitor/tv screen!! NOW you have a man-cave!! You'll probably watch hockey or something on that thing, since you are in Canada... Me, I'd watch American Football. You guys have a professional baseball team... so when are you going to get a Football team? Love the uploads... thanks for sharing with us.

Not really watching any sports. If I do that I will not be able to post videos or even work on cars. I watch KZbin and mostly channels that I can learn from :)

The position of the fuse box would have been better on the underside of that panel. I'd be concerned about corrosion in the current location.

I am only finishing what has already been started. The harness and the position of the panel were not my choice.

Weird... twice when I clicked on a KZbin link (Firefox on PC) for a new video marked "Spitfire spring maintenance" it pulled up this video...

Either that company supplies really crappy "model specific" improved wiring harness, or somebody fitted the wrong harness. With all that messing it's probably easier to diagnose and upgrade the already adequate original harness.
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties Жыл бұрын
The harness is good. Probably routed the wrong way though. I didn't want to go through all the instructions but probably it is explained there. The original harness has multiple non-fused circuits so it is not really adequate :)

Okay... as incredibly interesting as the wiring is... I'm thinking that this is one of those jobs you just want to figure out and time lapse... and then tell us all about it when you are showing us the time lapse.... and then record live an outro or something. I'll never remember all of these quirks you have to fix. It seem like whoever installed that power block did a subpar job. I give you a LOT of credit if you are able to straighten it all out - but seriously... as much fun as wiring is...
@Charlie4pants

Not entirely... for those of us up to our armpits in Mr Lucas' Finest, the issue of wiring is of considerable interest and anything that sheds light (oops!) on the Dark Arts of cable routing *despite* the wiring diagram, is welcomed with open connection crimpers
