I had a set of Marchal halogen lamps like that which were very bright. I swear you could light up the Rocky mountains from the Appalachians with those lights. At least anybody whose flashed their lights at me never flashed them twice when I flashed back.

LOL, that is how my Jeep is. I bought some cheap lights from Amazon and they turned out to be the brightest lights I've ever seen. I never flash at anyone as I am afraid they're gonna crush into a tree or something :)

Elin, your channel and your viewers have become the worldwide source of knowledge and experience in Triumph sports cars. What an amazing resource this is! Thanks for all of your efforts on behalf of the individual cars you are rescuing as well as everything related to the marque! This car is going to be another rustless beauty!

Elin! Another great video detailing things people otherwise may not ever see. Very cool, sir. Last winter's project was to add a Moss relay kit and halogen lights. The first big issue that I had was the fuse holder that came with the kit; it wasn't passing 12V at all, and was crap for the most part. I happened to have another on hand that was made much better, but I lost a day troubleshooting voltage because of it. The next issue was that my dimmer switch wasn't passing much current, either, but a spray with contact cleaner and a wire brush did wonders. This winter I'm troubleshooting my horns- I have the same setup as the red car, and it sounds like a tiny french horn.

I was enjoying a Saturday morning until the latest 70 TR6 video started playing on my TV. Another reminder of the 70 TR6 project waiting for me to start. ( My 3rd in 3 years + a 69 Spitfire..) Thanks for the reminder..

Elin, that relay talking about C4 on rear red label works with the ignition module. If the ignition module does not send 12volts to the relay you cannot start the car. I think it’s only based on the drivers seat seatbelt not being installed. If you send 12vdc to the low current side of the relay, it tells the relay to let 12v from ignition to starter solenoid. The relay for the ballast resistor wire is built into the solenoid on the starter motor.
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 11 ай бұрын
Actually in 73 when the ballast was added, the resistor by-pass wire to the coil was directly from the starter solenoid as you say, however for 74 and 75 they ran it through a relay controlled by the seatbelt module. And in 76 they put the wire back on the solenoid as they used the relay for "bulb test" relay.... lots of variations. You can see them here www.advanceautowire.com/tr2506.pdf

Your right Elin, she’s starting to look like a car! And again thanks to Jim for sending the parts Elin needed to secure my steering wheel column. Elin has created a great channel and his Rusty Beauty community is made up of great people. I can’t wait till next September when I will be able to share my Rusty Beauty at British Car day! I can’t wait to see what you do next Elin.

Great work Elin.. How I wish when I was involved with this sort of work there had been a large screen to show wiring plus parts and workshop manuals. Fortunately we didn't see any of this technology coming and accepted our lot in life in the late 60's & through the 70's. Looking forward to seeing more progress in the next episode.

The extra screw on the bucket is for right hand drive cars to adjust the lights not needed on left hand drive cars.

Hi Elin! Somethings been bugging me. The defrost vents (and the ashtray) should be painted with satin black, not gloss. Keeps reflections from being a problem. Do it before you button the dash up. Thx.

Elin in some future “electrics” video, could you discuss the differences between modern and “classic” fuse ratings, (for example “slow blow” types)?

She sure is starting to look good! Will you or John get the border around the grill on the front valance painted black? The parts I bought last year had the black painted by brush in flat black, I believe it was from the factory. As it is behind the grill, only a fraction gets seen. Keep the videos coming.
@RustyBeauties

No, I don't think we will paint that. We will add the bottom trim of course, which reminds me that I don't remember if this car had it. We might need to buy that.... another item for my list :)

Nice rewarding progress, but I'm a little surprised that the original headlights were the sealed beam type.. I thought theyweren't allowed in the US during the 70s / 80s ? Was Canada different ?

I still get frustrated that Triumph didn’t bother changing the wipers to clear the screen fully on the LHD drivers side, whereas the passenger gets the full clearance of vision provided to the RHD cars..

I think 6RA is for the Overdrive, not sure about 22RA.
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 11 ай бұрын
I think the 6RA and 22RA are corresponding to the rating of the contact points, not to the type of the relay. The old hazard relay was 6RA and the new one I decided to use was 22RA even though the configuration of the contacts was exactly the same.

Hi Elin, I may have missed it (or editing skipped it), but did you install the rubber gasket under the headlight bucket mounting ring? I think I saw one during the unpacking, but not during the installation. Cheftush on vacation? He's usually the 1st to post!

Yeah, the rubber never came off the buckets. I should have mentioned it, you are tight. But it is there. Cheftush is traveling on business for another two weeks I think.

Dumb question: Why can't you use modern relays?
@RustyBeauties
@RustyBeauties 11 ай бұрын
I could, no problem. The only reason why I use the old style is because of the look in the engine bay. But for the Overdrive under the dash where noone can see it I will definitely use a modern relay. More reliable, quiet, easy to get a replacement and costs pennies...
