It's not that strange. She's trying to activate a door sensor to get the elevator doors to close. The 'square dance' and the 'weird hand movements' are just attempts to motion activate the doors shut. I used to work at a cafe that had a sensor directly above the doorway to open the sliding glass doors. Whenever they wouldn't open immediately I'd wave my hands toward the sensor to trip the detector. Now I do it everywhere with automatic doors just out of habit and I see people looking at me, thinking I'm crazy, not realising I'm negotiating the automation sensors.
@ellaova
@ellaova 2 жыл бұрын
When traffic lights take too long to change we all try to shift our car a little forward or backwards to activate the sensor. It's the same theory she's employed on the elevator doors.

I think she knew she pressed the elevator open button. The whole thing seems like she’s playing around. She’s be frantically pressing the close elevator button and hiding as far and as can smoosh her body in the corner of that elevator in absolute abject fear. She didn’t look afraid to me. What would releasing more footage do? They released the footage that was necessary. Her last moments seen on camera, that's all that was needed, no one needed to see her going to the top floor twenty minutes or an hour earlier. They didn't "tamper" with the footage. This is standard police practice to protect the integrity of the investigation (jumbling the time stamp). For example, if someone said yeah, I killed her at 1am and the time stamp was originally categorized at 2am, 5 am etc then they have someone who isn't being truthful, yes people do cop to crimes they haven't done.

Ok u say she hit the stop button umm 🤔 I don't know I'm a professional mover for over 20yrs so I've seeing a few old and new elevators . On a newer elevator their not a stop button it's a "HOLD" button plus u don't press it u pull it .same deal with old elevators and most it activates a loud alarm . Reason it's a pull button is because if ur trying to stop the elevator more than likely it's do to an emergency. A push button would stop and activate the alarm really often do to people pressing it accidentaly On newer elevator s they have another button labeled "open " and it's purpose if to re open the door Incase people still coming in or out the elevator . I think abnormal activity may be the reason but also she shows sings of mental illness and she was a victim of her own mind . On the other hand like u guys say sup with the video also if I'm correct I think the lady the manager quit her position shortly after . From self experience I can say all those old buildings old elevators the all give me the bumps but can help the attraction for them if only they could talk right ;( BOO!!!!!

13:00 I disagree here! What I believe is she has being hearing thing “NOT SEEING THEM” as you say. I have a lot of these episodes and the noises or sounds are the main thing that causes this type of reaction. Cause there’s NO certainty of what’s causing those sounds so we stay in the place to try to figure it out. If there was something “visible” I’m sure she would of ran since the beginning. So my conclusion is, she is hearing a lot of noises and she’s staying in the same spot to figure out if those a noises represent a potencial danger or not.

Having grown up with someone who has schizophrenia...I absolutely believe she is seeing and or hearing things that are not there. It's extremely difficult to understand this break in sanity. I understand this fully as it took me years to try to understand the strange behaviors that an "episode" creates for them. Someone who could have an access to the roof and can go there unsuspiciously and can open the gas tank, possibly have a strong physique could be the individual who could take advantage of her when she's not in her right state of mind. Also, take note that she was found naked which is suspicious. The perpetrator might also have control over the odd occurrences on the elevator. After watching the documentary on elisa lam, I would like to give my version of what I strongly believed happen. I'm a Mental Health Nurse and watching the cctv and many youtubers footage I can see what happened. So when you have schizophrenia, bi polar and severe depression, patients go into a mode of psychosis. The symptoms of psychosis are two things. Hallucinations and Delusions. Hallucinations are where the patient sees, hears, tastes and smells things that aren't real and delusions are where the patient believes in something that doesn't exist outside of their own minds, most commonly they feel someone or something is out to get them. Some of Elisa Lams blogs showed indicators of delusion by feeling like she was often being followed by people. Elisa Lams actions in the elevator are a clear sign she was in a psychotic episode, the delusion of looking in and out, then hiding, thinking someone's watching her, the Hallucination of hand gestures as she's talking to someone or something that isn't really there and the pressing of all buttons as to go to the lower floors as soon as possible. The complaint by the two girls she shared a room with about her deterioration in behaviour before being moved to her own room indicates the start of a slowly developing psychotic episode. My honest belief is that leaving the elevator because it wasn't going down, not knowing she hit the button to keep the door open, she goes to the fire escape window, (where the tracker dog loses the scent) because she still believes someone's following her, she goes out the window and up the ladder to the roof and looking for somewhere to hide finds the water tanks. For whatever reason that no one will know, I truly believe she undressed herself and closed the hatch as she got into the water and then found herself in the position where she couldn't get herself out and consequently drowned as she couldn't reach the hatch. Her medical professionals should have monitored her mental health much better and provided better treatment and medication. Psychosis can make you do unnatural things when hallucinations and delusions occur. Things that rational people would never even consider. In my medical experience this is such an accidental tradegy that could have been averted. Even not taking anti psychotic prescriptions correctly can lead to a psychotic episode. If the police had routinely inspected the water tanks on their first time on the roof her outcome may have been different. I also suspect that if she hadn't hit the button that kept the door open she may have also been alive now. It's seems accidentally hitting the wrong elevator button and psychosis were the culprits and her killers. I know many people, especially on KZbin have their theories about other things that may have happened, but I hope I can bring some medical and science based knowledge to the dynamics of this tradegy. I sadly see the same hallucinations and delusions as Elisa Lams in many patients.

I have a different theory, but one that also explains her body language. There are many photos of her with glasses on. No glasses in this video. I think she wasnt sure which button to push because she couldn’t see them clearly. She accidentally pushed the hold button, holding the doors open. Not realizing what she had done, she gets spooked because the door isn’t closing. She may also hear small noises, such as creeks and echoes of voices from down the hall. She thinks it is someone messing with her. She tries to catch them, but no one is there. She then becomes really creeped out. With the hotels reputation, who can blame her? She hides in the elevator, but then talks herself down. It must be a glitch in something. Maybe the elevator is just stuck somehow. So she tries different spots outside the door, as well as pushing some more buttons. That ids my theory.

But then I remembered that police dogs guided detectives to the window, where that fire escape was... But it was on the fourth floor. So my theory was that, when she thougt that elevator isn't working, she decided to choose stairs, but when she was on her way, something might distract her, and on the fourth floor, she got out of the window and started climbing... up to roof. Maybe she was 'running away' from something. It woud be logic, that she wanted to hide in water tank... :( But why did nobody notice, that someone was on the fire escape... It was visible from the street, right? All I hope is that, she didn't suffer too much...

She's looking to see if somebody is waiting to get in, and she's waving hands to make motion, to trigger the door. She's getting frustrated because the doors won't close. Her actions can also be explained under the assumption she wasn’t delusional. What if she was exploring the hotel and somebody was following her around the hallways. That would explain why she was trying to hide in the elevator. She probably didn’t realise she hit the hold button and assumed somebody was holding it outside that’s why she jumped and pooped her head out to catch them. The second time she went out when she (bunny hopped) it’s looks to me that she was trying to creat noise and started stepping about to make it sound like she was walking away so whoever out there would come out. The hand movements could be her checking the lasers on the elevators because the doors weren’t closing. As for her pushing all the buttons let’s say for example somebody was following her if she took the elevator to her floor then that other person would see what floor the elevator had stopped on and what floor she got off. She could have pressed multiple buttons on different floors to stop whomever it was following her to her room.

If I was following someone I would have used the stairs to go the floor the elevator is marking. I mean even if she presses all the buttons the elevator still will go fist to the first marked floor and so will she. The next floor will be displayed and so on. It could work if the person who is following is unable to reach the first marked floor at time but personally I think that marking all the buttons can be a bit risky it won’t allow to change the floor at will if something changes and makes you have less control in that situation. Also why would she just wait it to move if in her mind someone is about to catch up with her. It’s quite bizarre but having an episode doesn’t exclude being followed by a real person. In my opinion till she exited what she did was out of panic, pressing all the buttons without a clear plan. Once she excited there is the possibility of someone noticing a disoriented woman, maybe believing her drunk and targeting her or her ending in that roof by herself and deciding to hide in the water tank maybe without realizing she won’t be able to climb back. Without more information l don’t believe the police should have discarded the murder theory.

The strange gestures she made while leaving the elevator could possibly suggest that she knew or she had a some kind of premonition about what was going to happen to her that night. First, she did these swimming-like hand movements, as if she was mimicking being in water. Then, she made a circular motion, visualizing something tank-like or a container of some sort. After that, she seemed to be twisting and squeezing her hands, while pressing and bending her legs, almost like she was saying 'to seal something tightly.' Now, I'm not sure if my wild theory makes sense or not, and I don't want to speculate too much. But if her gestures somehow matched my interpretation, it would mean she had an inkling of the worst-case scenario that would happen to her that day. I have so many speculation running on my mind, only from this wild interpretation alone, but i can't write it down here. These are just my thoughts after watching the CCTV footage for the first time, though. No one knows on whether she did it herself, asked someone else to do it for her, or was forced by someone else. Also, how she new the video was edited, but lied about it. I think they did this to drive up the history of the hotel & with her morbid fantasies. *here is what happened* She heard a domestic incident or something more serious and wanted to help but was too scared to (soon after she hit the door hold button) look at her facial expression @4:35 a few seconds after she hit the hold button and she was startled when she hit the hold door button with the door starting to close - notice at the start she's checking to see where it's coming from, then she hides when she hears it again, again going out of the elevator checking first, to seem normal and hasn't heard anything but then she sees what's happening which startles her @8:34 (on the left side) but not to give away that she noticed she tried to act normal (notice how she steps backwards into the elevator, her safe place) - her actions after show stress, fear, confusion and panic, her pushing the buttons again (trying to get out of there) then @12:45 she is talking to someone she doesn't know - first she is saying I was in here messing with the elevator and then I heard a scream/bang/crying - and then someone walked out down that way and then I heard them coming back but there was more - they went back in one of these rooms and then someone left and went back down that way - (she's also reaching for her safe place when explaining what she experienced) notice how she turns to her left slightly as she is explaining what she saw, possibly counting the amount of people there were, the person she asked for help from just left @13:25 her hands back behind her head indicates this "feeling helpless" notice at the end when she is stressed as she turns to the left she startles someone but wanted to seem normal so she walked away from the elevator as if she had just arrived *just from this video I can tell you the immediate layout of her surroundings* I.e there's another elevator across the hall on the right side - there's rooms on both sides of the elevator she was in - the layout resembles a horse shoe shape Her mental state in this video changes multiple times from (confusion, worrying, frightened, wondering) to (stressed, fearful, panic, scared) *she was murdered* obviously someone who is startled by a hold door on an elevator will not know about the existence of a water tank on top of buildings

With all due respect, I think you've gotten this wrong, and I'm reading her body language completely different. I am not an expert in body language, but I have studies it within my psychology degree and studies in human behavior. As you mentioned, she hit the button for the door to stay open. I do believe she did that unknowingly. In my opinion, her body language indicates that she does not understand why the door is not closing. She is standing proper as a lot of people do, waiting for the door to close. When it doesn't, she tries to peek out to see if anyone is coming, that may be holding the door open. She only leans her head in case the door begins to close on her. She moves to the side of the elevator thinking that perhaps she's keeping the door open by standing in front of it inside the elevator. She waves her arms as is she is trying to see what is holding the door open. I think her looking around all strangely is because she is spooked as to who is keeping the door open. I truly believe all of the seen behavior is simply her not realizing that she was the cause for it not closing, and that is why her behavior becomes more and more strange as the door continues to stay open. I also believe that she may have thought it was a ghost, and that she could have wanted to "hide" in the water tank. Do you think any of my theories are possible?

Most of us cannot keep the elevator door open. Think about it. She was followed by someone. I think she wasn't sure if this was really happening to her. All of her movements seem to indicate that she was trying to trigger a sensor of some type that would cause the door to close. I actually do look out of the elevator to see if anyone else is going to enter before the door closes. I always hope they don't for some reason. I initially thought her over-exaggerated arm movement when pressing the buttons looked like something I would do when intoxicated. I vaguely remember her writing something in her blogs that she was completely open and exited to meet new people while she was there. Maybe that's why she was up on that floor. Clever thought. In a high anxiety state , one would behave the same way.

@Your Favorite Sociologist drowning ... I've seen people drowning... do you know what... it's... bizarre. The weird calm the shit down, the stasis the person goes In to. Dying isn't easy it's a big thing to die. But .drowning is still a possibility... as in .. without foul play Its a great point, about the doors staying open because of Elisa standing over the threshold

When she unknowingly hitting the door hold button and her mental state at the time; it triggered her into state of paranoia ... yikes. The most likely theory of what happened. So tragic 😔 also she may have been actually talking to someone in the hall about the elevator when she was gesturing and they directed her to the stairs or the fire escape. That may be why there is a break in the footage due to privacy because who wants to be “tried” in the public when you may have been the last person to see her.
