I had read that in addition to despising unattractive people, she had a pathological fear of overweight people, which she apparently passed on to her daughter Marie Valerie. The child was reportedly terrified when she met Queen Victoria. You were missed, Nieke, I was so happy to see this video!

It's hard to blame her for taking a dislike to Queen Victoria, most reports present Victoria as a highly disagreeable person - not that Sisi seems to have been much pleasanter...

@@TheKingsofFrance I was in a similar situation a few years ago so I get it. In the nearby town there is an excellent library and I joined a small group of amateur writers that met every Saturday afternoon. Within a few months I took over the management of the group and began bringing in guest authors for readings, publishers and the like. The group became extremely popular and grew to up to 50 paying members. We had an end-of-the-year-banquet that I planned (by myself) at a local inn, with a lottery and decent prizes (that I organized). Every Sunday I sent an email to all the members outlining who presented what work the day before, with the idea that such a record would make us look serious when it came to getting grants or funding. Soon however, people being people, I was always managing little conflicts. So, we had to exclude everything but fiction or essays on things of local interest. I got a lot of resistance from one or two members when I banned sexist, racist or obscene language being presented to the group. I had to behave like a policeman when members went beyond their twenty minutes or failed to show courtesy to other members. Having to tell adults, many of retirement age, that NO, the library does not permit food or drink so go and eat that Big Mac out in the parking lot.Then one Sunday I woke up and asked myself two questions. The first being, "Have you written anything yourself Jim, in the last six months?" The second being, "Are you actually enjoying managing this work load and some of these personalities? The answer to both questions was... no. I quit. Most members understood me when I told them that I didn't want a full time job. Others, to my disbelief, showed anger and hostility. The club sputtered out some months later. But I at least was happier and completely stress-free, which is the moral of the story!

It would devastated Franz Josef to know his wife didn't marry him for love.
@oliviaspring9690 Жыл бұрын
Very few people at the time married for love in the aristocracy. While sometimes there were love matches, those were the exception. It would have hardly been a surprise.

1. She married her first cousin. 2. The emperor was supposed to ask for Elizabeth’s older sister’s hand in marriage, but he found Elizabeth more beautiful and wanted to marry her instead.
