@@GABEGRAPESGirls today are on par with the rest of the Welcome to Hell crew. Hell, Marissa dal Santo 20 years ago was gnarly enough that a dude could have fit right in doing her tricks. Elissa was a style skater; didn't do the biggest stuff, but always looked good on a board. I love her Welcome to Hell part because she was just learning to skate stuff like that; Jamie Thomas pushed her to skate bigger stuff. She would have got there on her own, no doubt, but it's good to have people push you to do stuff you might not otherwise do. I'd usually rather watch someone skating passed the limits of what they thought they could do than a person with athletic prowess doing difficult tricks casually.

Perhaps no other skater embodies the spirit of skateboarding more than Elissa Steamer. Through that sense of play and determination she transcends gender, race, nationality, etc. and is a joy to watch and listen to. What a great podcast episode. Loved the last 15 minute intimate talk about THPS.

My friend Chris used to skate with Elissa, everyday, back in Fort Myers. When he moved back to Baltimore he told us about the girl named, Giz, that shredded harder than everyone else. Then we saw her pop up in videos and video games. That elevated her legend status for me. "Big day out" 😂 that Shit's gone.

Re-watching this episode, it is just as good the second time. Elissa is an awesome personality and skater, congrats on the well deserved and such a sweet Thrasher cover last month! Hearing you guys talk about avoiding tricks because of hanging up reminded me of how awesome it would be to see Mike Frazier on the show. He seems to be the master of all those sketchy tricks and he makes them look great and is still doing them. Being of a younger generation I only discovered him more recently from all the OG skate events, and he very quickly became one of if not my favorite vert skaters to watch

I started skateboarding in 1982 on penny boards and Nash and variflex..my first pro model board was the hosoi hammer head that my dad got for me from surf and style back in 85 and the deck was signed by multiple pros and it was the powder blue rising sun air grab deck and the top of the deck was stickered with a Gonz sticker and the vision faceplant sticker and an SSD sticker under clear grip tape.. I had white slime balls with red graphics on the wheels and old school thunder trucks with the skull and crossbones and dagger and lightning bolts on the baseplates and yellow rails and my father's boss's daughter hung out at surf and style back in the 80's and she knew a lot of the old school 80's pros and she got the top of the deck signed.. her name was Ann Cutwright.. my board got stolen back in the early 90's if you ever see it.. that's my shit..lol😊.. sob😢...
