I have flown all four ships extensively. And I must say, for someone who does a lot of bounty hunting, and does missions intermittently; the FAS is hands down my favorite ship. The FDL is excellent, but takes a long time to master the 'drift' that it has.

Thanks for this video. I currently fly the FDL and i've been thinking of trading it in for a FAS as i'm mostly PVE bounty hunting and such. But with planets coming next week, I thought the extra jump range and agility of thr FAS would be beneficial. Seems that the FDL has now caught up in most cases in 1.5 and without an armour package, it's jump range is closer to 14ly. I'll stick with the FDL for now.

Nice Video, as always. What would be great is a similar video showing the Mj buff/nerf that's coming with the 1.5. Because i think that SCB of class 6 and 5 will require heat sink, which means less boosters. So in the end i feel like the python is more severly impacted by this as being less shield tank and with still lowest speed and pitch than others commented in this video.

I really want to use the Clipper as my main ship, but I dont see how it can shine against the other options... I mean, top speed is not a big advantage when the other ones have more weapon, more shield, more manouvrability etc... Maybe I am missing something... What about that 7 slot ? I dont understand how it can have less shield with a better slot and more shield cells than the other ones... Should I build around armor than ?

Hi, Kornelius. I really enjoy your videos about elite dangerous, and for me they are very useful. But I would like to ask for a new review on python. I've been playing for a while now, but since I started I hear that the python was one of the best ships. But after the 1.5 upgrade, it seems nerfed. Overheating just by shooting with normal class 3 pulse or brust lasers and passing the 190% temperature when activating the SCB without heat sink. By comparison, the fer de lance never pass 120% with SCB even if I am firing laser weapons. Well, I really enjoy your efforts to test the game.

+George Lawther show me at least one reliable armor test, there is so much weirdness (bugs or random) going one that i never had even remotely consistent data, how i can test behavior for something like that? i think all armor tests are waste of time - they just reveal general ideas but nothing more.

Very nice review! You might want to add the maximum possible armor combat fitted with HRPs, that is where they Python tank comes in handy, runs hot though. (The Power distributor is badly placed and takes a lot of hits, rendering it pretty soon inoperable.) Is there any chance you gotta review the heat generation tied to power plant classes? I aim to leave free capacity with an A7 PP, to get less strain on the PP and thus generate less heat.

I just equipped the same loadout i was running with an A6 powerplant at 29% heat thrusting forward fa:on with an A7. Tadaa! It runs cooler, than the A6 by around 4-5%. The bigger pp leaves me with some 6ish MWatts free though, so i guess less strain on the pp gives you lower heat sig. Also note deploying hardpoints activates the weapons, thus increases the heatlevel by 4% in my loadout.

i always thought the Python was the next logical step after my Clipper... Now that i see those numbers i'm not so sure anymore. I often rely on the getaway-speed of the Clipper because in combat i can't even fight Vipers - they just out-turn (is that a word) me. Engineer your python and you'll get speeds of around 420 with boost and du to it's great power plant by the time you're down to 400 you can boost again

+Dr. Cooper correct, prices are without any discounts and with mirrored armor, so you can save a lot of money and exceed this number, unless you go for beam turret setup which makes little sense for those ships :)

+Dr. Cooper power management issues? just click the right buttons and no issues, or you meant heat management? :) i actually have several videos on new FDL, with plasma loadout, bi weave shields etc. so if you want to learn more then watch those but there are no visible heat issues for FDL. as for armor then last time when i checked (that was quite some time ago) mirrored armor gave me best results and as i have no issues with money they i always go for it, i would chose between military and mirrored, maybe new test has to be conducted but every single time i do something with armor the result is so damn funny, my guess is that there are loads of bugs otherwise i can't explain some results and in the end it's more about luck than armor - power plant destroyed and buy buy can come right away even with 50+ % hull ;)

Kornelius Briedis By power management, I meant that I had to disable few shield boosters pre 1.5 in order to use power hungry weapons(Smaller powerplant), the loadout used to exceed 100%. Yes heat issues exist,I've watched your new FDL video too, they were helpful, waiting for 1.5.

Great comparison, have you mesure V/L Thrusters time needed for stopping ship movement? Its the same? You can feel huge difference between FDL and Python its like driving car and bus. I was surprised with only 1,2 sec difference of V/L Thrusters acceleration between these two. Thanks

+rogantu I have been flying Conda and phyton mostly the last 6 months, going back to the Clipper it feels quite fragile, espesialy if you got to combat zones, even with the a7 shield. But Clipper looks good and is a good ship to work your way up to some wealth with. The FAS has realy weak shields, and having some bulkhead armor is a must, with the boost to internal armor int 1,5/2.0 it will be a beast if you tank it up with armor inside and out.

+kee1haul well, there are only 2 options if you are not willing to use there large weapon, cannon or plasma, and only one of those have gimbaled variant, but huge cannon is very slow, however, agility of FDL can compensate that in many cases.

Why nobody talks about shields optimal hull mass ? In python with Prismatic shields A6 u can not have more than 1x A6 cell banks if u want to keep your total mass under optimal for shields. If you load your python with full cell banks u will be almost 2X heavier than shields optimal hull mass which will drop your A6 shields strenght to 50% if I understand that rulle : shields strenght = baseShieldValue * (shieldOptimalMass \ currentShipMass)

If say for example sake, the FDL has 1,000 Base Shield; but below it's Optimal... then it will have 1,000 EHP you have to chew through. If the Python has 950 Base Shield; but is above the Optimal Mass by (again for simplicities sake) 2x Optimal, then this is reduced to 425 EHP. Though honestly this isn't *as* detrimental given it can easily outgun anything coming after it, especially given the current state of "Balance".

I recently tried the Fer de Lance that everyone raves about and I was underwhelmed by it. Too power hungry and prone to overheating. I dumped it after 3 days. Just to prove a point to myself I went out and killed as many FDL as I could find in a Federal Assault Ship. Yes I know the FAS has poor shields but that is what shield cell banks are for.

I'm sort of annoyed with myself now. I had 'A' rated Python for some time in combat/trade role. I finally bought the Anaconda with my Python as 150m trade in and 40m in the bank. That was just before the Horizons release date ! After watching some videos about landing large ships on high gravity planets ( moons ) and of course not being able to land at outposts, I think I may have made a mistake. I've now outfitted an eagle for 'buzzing' planet -side installations because I'm worried I would crash & burn in the anaconda because, simply put, I need some more practice before being comfortable in it. Plus it's not yet high spec. I suppose I could grind for a while and re-buy a python...... again. I am probably going to spend most of my time in 'Horizons' anyway so combat/trading can take a back seat for a while. Any ideas gents ? I intend setting myself up as a 'recon' unit where other players can hire me to take F10 shots of bases and point out gun placements and other interesting features. Mind you, at the moment there don't seem to be much AT these installations so am probably wasting my time !

Once they add the fighter bays I imagine you would be able to leave your anaconda in orbit and deploy a small ship to land in the planet and use the srv or at least I hope so I don't know if they will let us store all small landing pad ships inside the fighter bay or just those tiny ships with no FSD it would be pretty OP to have a anaconda with a vulture docked inside you can launch and let the AI use while you use the conda so I imagine not all small ships will be able to dock inside but still something like a courier you still have like 30 tons of space you could fill up with materials you get off the surface with your SRV and then just fly back up to orbit and dock with your conda would be pretty awesome

FAS' shields even when engineered would be underwhelming. I Think that Python with engineering will benefit the most and be better from all 4. But that's just my assumptions. I've flown FDL - it's nice, FAS - Shields too fragile and when they go out 1 cannon hit and you are swiss cheese with half of hardpoints malfunctioning, I didn't Combat Fit my Python, I use it primarily as Medium Trading ship. I'm about 5% to Baron so I didn't fly the Clipper just yet.
