I love flying the imperial eagle, it’s a ship that I just can’t help but love it. But when I saw you running an eagle with plasma and dual rail guns and no heat sinks I thought ‘what! Are you crazy! I used one rail gun and that my eagle into an oven!’ But the change of perspective from a different cmdr really highlights the floors and makes me want to re think about my own build for this ship. o7 cmdr. Job well done.
@GuardianCitadel7 жыл бұрын
Running shieldless with vastly overengineered power plants have the benefit of amazing heat tolerance. Even with hardpoints deployed, he was barely using half his available power. Running shieldless is a bit counter-intuitive for most small ship pilots, but, lets face it: If you're getting hit in something that small, shields aren't going to help you much. The downside of the demonstration is the need for massive engineering modifications to make the I-eagle even viable for a master pilot. it's a pretty poor choice for an average one, but the armor-over-shields approach was still interesting.

You make it look so easy. Incredible flying. I'm still only halfway through Expert and have recently taken up combat as a serious focus (as in, not mindlessly flying around resource sites snagging easy kills from security). I got an FAS fitted with rails and PAs in an attempt to really focus on the important aspects of combat aka staying in an advantageous position. It's so much fun and challenging and feels good knowing I have so much left to improve. I feel like I can truly earn what it means to be Dangerous or above some day with the help of videos like yours.

Loved it. My smallest (size-wise) ship is an Imperial Courier. It's a total cooker and has to do everything fast (except for taking down opponents). The thing has 468 top speed and almost 700 boost with two beams and a rail gun. Rails still needs a lot of practice on my part and I also need to get a bit better at anticipating when I should dodge because one ram in that thing ... even against another Courier that's down at 4% hull .... takes off the shields and half my health. Oh and fuel scooping is a roller-coaster ride. Scoops quickly and heats up even faster, so it's just burst through the sun's outer layer, fetch the fire extinguishers and cool off and repeat.

Great vid. I've been using an Imperial Eagle with class 1 pulse lasers in a high RES. I noticed that, like when using a Sidewinder, the NPCs don't shoot back if the feds shoot them first, so it gives you a sort of god-mode.
@asingularcheesepuff63836 жыл бұрын
David Hess I've noticed a similar effect, but to me it seems that the NPCs prioritize firing back at the target that's dealing the most damage to them. I've had fights where my SLF will be zipping around chipping off the enemie's shield and hull, but they will focus exclusively on me if I keep my fire focused on them.

it's a wonderful ship, I like the weapons positioned very close together, not like in the Courier. I put the advanced engines in mine which make it even more agile but consume. Your build left me perplexed by the lack of shield but with the advanced engines may be a positive thing so I save energy. In any case I should get used to the idea of being left without a shield, maybe with all that armor it won't be so bad, I'll have to try.

It has 2 large PAs 1 med PA and 3 small gimballed beams, and biweave shields. it's a great combat ship, far more capable than I am right now. I'm going to build out an eagle the same as yours in order to develop my piloting skills further. One tip i pecked up is not boosting during combat because it puts you back out into the line of fire and into a jousting situation, which I'm also experiencing.

I do stacked massacre missions solo in Krait MK2, 1 L beam, 2 M beams to strip shield, 2 L MC to shred hulls (on bigger ships usually), a 6C biweave, 6B SCB, 3 OA Shield boosters, and basically never go under shields, and zero downtime for next fight.

I'm flying an Imperial Eagle pirate/smuggler - no shields, all weapons modified to be as efficient as can be (1 pulse, 2 multis, all gimballed), engineered reactive hull (thermal), some stuff leightweight modded. It has collector and hatch-breaker limpet controllers, a small cargo bay and just one engineered hull reinforcement, there's a very good clean drive tuning, etc. With no shields I can have 3 pips on engines and 3 on weapons and the capacitor never drains. It has a very low heat signature and it's a pretty tough cookie thanks to the well engineered hull, generally, but it's only good against small ships and sometimes lower grade large ones. It always surprises me how fast the really big ships can turn, usually they should not stand a chance against an eagle. Maybe I'm doing something wrong (my speed is well within the blue range and I sometimes help turning by switching flight assist off). Unfortunately, and this is my biggest turn-off, the stealth mechanics don't seem to work properly on NPCs. I can silent run for a minute, but they keep hitting me no matter how I twist and turn. Now, heat sinks are pretty useless on an imp eagle, as they are not enough of them. I'm sporting a defence turrent that proves very valuable against missiles, which (remember my eagle has no shields) are pretty devastating, if they hit. It's a nice challenge and not too annoying if the eagle is lost in battle. For the tough jobs, I still have a pretty brutal Python.

I always suddenly gets tagged when I've already collected a sizable bounty... right now I've given up HiRez bounty hunting to doing medical delivery runs but man... honestly the money grinding in this game is soul crushing... I want to keep playing it because its relaxing to get lost in space discovering new planets and stuff but I cant do it on a measly ship.. (I'm currently running on an Eagle, with Viper MK 4 that I keep if ever I zeroed out my credits again because of dying and Type 6 I used to do delivery runs, I get tagged often though and interdicted and I've lost at least 3 Type 6's and a couple more millions) Any tips you can give as a beginner? Maybe a ship that you can recommend? something that can go long distance and carry a sizable cargo but still good enough to defend itself? or maybe a safe trading route for my current Type6? (I can hold around 96 units as of now and Im currently headed to RMK 6 to deliver medicine ( I also have horizons so I can land on planets but prospecting have not been very good with me)

As a beginner you're best doing courier missions. Keep doing missions for the same faction and you'll end up allied. The rewards grow as you rank up. I'd also suggest joining a faction. Go to INARA.cz and you can browse all the groups. Find one you like the sound of. I'm sure you'll get players to help you and wing up with.

Hi, Wiggy. I just found your channel, and really enjoyed the video. I did have a question, though. In the beginning of the last fight, both of the clippers were laying into you with their weapons as you took down your first target. Was it the reactive bulkheads that allowed you to survive that kind of attack without shields?
@WiggyB7 жыл бұрын
Lots of armour and never fly in a straight line. The first helps survive hits, the second avoids being hit. Make sure your hull resistances are all positive and reasonably balanced. Use chaff.

Great vid Cmdr, like you I have an Imperial Eagle and have used it as a canyon racer, I have the enhanced performance thrusters on mine and wonder if you'd tried these but decided against them for some reason. I think I shall have to take another look at the Imperial Eagle. I love the small ships and frequently use a Viper mkIII in the has rez for fun and shinanigans, it can ( eventually) take down Anacondas and the larger ships without too much trouble but other smaller ships can be more problematic. I have bi-weave shields, rather than a full hull tank, with twin efficient beams and twin sturdy mount rails. I don't remember if there are secondary effects on the beams but the rails are super penetrator and feedback cascade like yours, lethal. Small ships can be so much fun and a challenge with a low rebuy should it all go pear shaped. I would urge all Cmdrs to keep at least one small ship in their fleet just for fun. Keep up the good work Cmdr wiggyb.

Hi Wiggy - I bought and modded a couple of small rails (already had the dispersal plasma) and had a go with your build - I note you said you didn't use MRP because you don't get module-sniped and you prefer more hull. Do you have any tips for avoiding being module-sniped because when I'm running this fit I am always bailing due to modules being taken out and still have hull to spare! I'm trying to work on a) getting fewer missed plasma shots, (although I'm happy to find I get decent hit-rate with the rails) and b) getting better at staying above/behind/below, but I struggle with just doing b) on it's own, let alone b) combined with a)!! I can say having tried this fit...you made it look easier than it is!
@WiggyB7 жыл бұрын
Hi K1lostream. Great to hear that you're giving this a go. Just remember - this series is supposed to give you new challenges! The most important thing is learning to stay out of the fire arc. I'm assuming that you're not fighting wings just yet. This is all about thruster management and throttle control. You have to be continually adjusting for the position and vector of your target. If you've a choice between shooting and dodging, I'd go with dodging almost every time. Save chaff until you really need it. Don't dump chaff if you're temporarily crossing the path of the other ship. Wait until you're stuck out in front and need several seconds to re-position. The easiest of the 3 ships to master is the Vulture. This has the best vertical thrusters and the boost isn't too savage, meaning you can boost dodge without ending up 2k from the target. I've been doing this a while and struggled hugely at first, but when it finally clicked the improvement was rapid. Hope that helps. Feel free to ask more specific questions if you still need help. (For what it's worth, I'm going through the same learning curve with full time FA off at the moment!) o7
@K1lostream7 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the swift reply! - errr yeah, I'm totally going for wings at the moment! I'll take lone ships if they're about, but sometimes there aren't! I decided to try for moar speed and some module protection, so I fitted a toasty power plant, the EPT's and a class 2 MRP - my build's currently looking like this: eddp.co/u/K8K4xJNs - I'm getting kills, and module damage is less bad, but keep having to run away to repair still! - I'll select for lone targets for a while, and practice that continual adjustment - Thanks for the tips!
@WiggyB7 жыл бұрын
Ah, that explains it! If you're going for wings, scan all the ships before you engage and kill anything with rails or seeker missiles first. They're usually the module sniping culprits. This build was anything but optimised so I'm glad to hear that you're improving on it.
@K1lostream7 жыл бұрын
WiggyB -Well, I'd recently been out hunting for pharmaceutical isolators, and consequently got loads of core dynamics composites instead, so I was able to mod the armour! And thanks for the module scanning and target prioritisation tips - I had not been doing that.

Does anyone think these two rails would work with my hounds? Its grade 5 high mag + thermal shock but its the only engineered gear i have for now.
@EspenFrafalne4 жыл бұрын
I dont like going for repairs all the time (especially when undermining), so i fitted guardian shield boosters on most of my internals (just have a class 3 biweave and a 2A fuel scoop), and a shield booster with heat-resistance in the utility slot. I tried using long range burst lasers, but they depleted the capacitor pretty fast, so i will probably switch to "efficient" bursts instead. The combat in this ship was a long and painstaking process. Im used to the Krait MK2 with all long range gimballed burst lasers, but thats almost too easy... The Mamba with some fixed lasers and a rail is more of a "middle ground" challenge. It has very little heat-capacity, but a large beam with heat vents made it a LOT better... Kinda wish the turn rate was at least a LITTLE better though... After all, it is the "sports car" edition in this game, and you would think it had a pretty good turn radius, and not feel almost a bit "sluggish"... Its not too bad though...

Good fun once you get the hang of it. Position is everything. Just look out for ships with missiles if you run without shields!
@kudosbudo6 жыл бұрын
I really have a hard time staying behind ships even using thrusters and such exactly as you do. I foten find they do a full "bullshit" flip these days and my laterals barely move me in the DBS and Imp Eagle despite both ships being heaviliy engineered for speed. My imp eagle can pull 800 m/s and many ships can still flip on me. Did fdev change something in the AI? I've seen them pull crazy tunrs in SC as well, turns that arn't possible in smaller and more manuevrable ships.
@WiggyB6 жыл бұрын
I find advanced thrusters are simply too fast to stay behind much slower NPC targets. That's why I use standard thrusters on my iEagle. Advanced also seem to slide a lot more. DBS thrusters are a weak point sadly. Vulture is much better.

do you use a joy stick or a keyboard mouse setup?.........terrific fighting by the way. you motivated me to fly the I.eagle

Thanks. I actually fly with an Xbox Elite controller. both for PC and Xbox. My bindings are quite heavily customised, with strafe and throttle being bound to buttons on the bottom letting me control all 6 degrees of freedom whilst also shooting.

Hey, I’m curious why wouldn’t put shields on this build since it appeared you had the power to spare and that would give you the ability to absorb some of the more minor damage? Definitely cool to see such a small ship take on wings and win!
@WiggyB6 жыл бұрын
I find it much more fun to dodge and to fly my ships to the limit of their ability. Shields take power, slow you down and reduce the skill required. I've been playing since the game was launched and PvE is simply getting too easy. I'm also not a fan of PvP due to the salty nature of the encounters. Small ships with no shields add spice back to the game as I take damage and occasionally die. I cap pop over to the RES in my FDL or Corvette any time I want to but the appeal is minimal. Have a look at my no hit challenge video, no shields AND no hull reinforcements! That's my idea of fun combat.

Maybe I missed it, but it's interesting that you didn't comment on enhanced performance thrusters. Even for a build that requires cool modules, aren't they just a straight upgrade if you have the power plant for them?
@WiggyB7 жыл бұрын
Personal preference, but I've never been a fan. I use them on my super sidey but didn't bother here. This build was knocked together quickly over a couple of days. The reason I'm not keen on them is I find that when I boost I end up too far away from my target. Staying close is very tricky. The flight back is then rather damaging. This is obviously a function of my flight style. Give them a try, you might like them.

When you're outgunned, position is far more important that shooting. Spend your time getting behind or above your target, then shoot. If you're loosing position, stop shooting and get out of the way. Lots of practice also helps!

Hey, this build got me curious and I think I'm going to try it. I've not dabbled with PA's or rails all that much so it's going to be a fun learning experience. One question though, you have the Plasma engineered to Efficient obviously for heat issues, but the rails for sturdy? I can see that sturdy mounts also decrease the thermal load, but is there a reason you went specifically for sturdy instead of efficient?
@WiggyB7 жыл бұрын
There isn't an efficient rail mod. I've since been told that you can get an equivalent reduced thermal load secondary effect using the long range mod. I haven't tried this yet though - but this would be lighter weight. I do like using sturdy mount on shield-less ships because it improves integrity and stops the weapon being knocked out by incoming fire. As the size ones on an iEagle are on the bottom, this is less of an issue for this particular ship. Lots of compromises to play with... Have fun building your ship and learning to hit with rails and PAs! You'll certainly have a "learning experience". o7

Franklin Romines yes they're getting rid of them. A lot of changes coming to engineers
@K1lostream7 жыл бұрын
Yep I heard that too - although to be clear, that is the secondary modifers you get after the primary rolls - they're not getting rid of special abilities - I have encountered more than one person who'd misunderstood that and thought it was the specials that were going. Also I'm not sure if the secondary rolls are truly 'going' - hopefully the secondary values are simply factored into the primary roll and the adjusted final figure displayed up front, otherwise there'll be no hope of ever modifiying anything better than we've already got!

The extra speed is excessive. Boosting places you too far away and in the sights of your enemy. I've tried enhanced thrusters with clean and dirty tuning and stock and prefer standard drives.
@Exalted_Example6 жыл бұрын
ah! I run a similar build to yours, though i run a turreted beam with thermal vent on top (it's a silent running build). Useless for pve, but it's for module sniping cargo ships in powerplay. Still needs a lot of work though, nothing except ego to stop them from just returning to SC.

This is why i love my 8 gimbal multi conda. My piloting skills are next to none so all i have to do is keep them in front of me for a few seconds and theyre done. Also why i dont pvp, real pilots would know how to out maneuver me and id never get a shot in.
@WiggyB6 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure I got my first conda only having used gimbals too. The standard Elite progression: start in a sidey > race to the biggest ship and get bored > buy ever smaller ships and start using fixed weapons > get better at piloting until you can kill everything in a sidey! (Yes, you can kill anacondas in a sidey)

I wish i knew how you do so well to keep ships in your sights, cause even in a vulture, i couldn't keep a freighter in my sights, it out-turned me......but then again, i am not using a HOTAS, i tried it when my brother was here with his, but it just didn't feel right. I can turn better with a mouse and keyboard, i just don't know how everyone turns so fast and keeps targets in their crosshairs. I tried the Imperial Eagle to see how it compared to the Original Eagle.....i died just as quick as i did in the eagle, but i never tried the weapons you used, since as i said, i have trouble keeping them in my crosshairs, so fixed weapons are a waste for me. Awesome video, though it made another case of me just outright sucking. lol I love the whole combat aspect of this game, but my ability to turn fast without leaving my ship open to being obliterated in seconds is the main problem. I mean, i have a Vulture, A-Spec'd right now and i can afford to rebuy several times, but i have trouble staying in a safe position of the target, no matter what it is. I can understand if a more agile ship was able to do it, but the bulkier ones??? it just makes me feel like a failure. lol
@WiggyB6 жыл бұрын
It's just practice and gentle use of the inputs. Use up and down thrust to widen or tighten your turns. Avoid boosting as this tends to get you out of immediate bother but then leave you in a worse place later on. Vindicator Jones has some good tutorials on how to stay behind a target. I've also got some practice tips in my no hit challenge video. Hope that helps.

I tried out your hull tanking vulture and actually took out a anaconda and other ships.....ALOT faster than i would have with the default pulse lasers with shields....it really helped me out. It is annoying with the fixed weaponry though, i miss alot.
