Congrats on your bike path grand prix result, pretty decent considering the strength of the competition and the minimal technical sections, not much to love there. Love the Belgians for their enthusiasm for cycling though, must have been amazing to ride through the town with that crowd. You looked pretty fresh at the end, so well done on the fuelling and training to get you home in good shape. Hope your Dad is doing alright now too (Hi Joe) and has pulled up ok after that nonsense. Probably needs more time on the bike... I'd be interested to know if you think you had picked the right tyres for the race, as the course seemed a lot more urban than the other races. No punctures is always the right choice in any race of intensity, I think.
@maddynutt2 күн бұрын
@@RickRolling-tc7vb it definitely was a bike path GP 🤣 the Belgian enthusiasm was unreal. I’ve never experienced anything like the crowds there! Reckon I could have gone for narrower tyres and perhaps less tread as well. The recce I did the day before there was mud but on race day no mud, so it’s very hard to know exactly what tyres to run even when you recce the course!

Those were age-group racers. it doesn’t seem fair that some can benefit from riders in a totally different division.
@delayclose5012Күн бұрын
Up until very recently all gravel was just mass starts regardless of gender of age groups. Splitting them was against the spirit of gravel or something.
@Richz22 күн бұрын
To be able to race the World Championship you should have to do at least a handful of gravel races to qualify, not just one.Having roadies and triathlons athletes turn up and then never race another one is poor. There are many gravel riders who race all over the world and promote their sport and then lose out to a small percentage of riders who don’t really care about gravel.
@delayclose5012Күн бұрын
Why should world championships not be won by whoever is actually the fastest on the world championships course? I understand it's annoying that gravel specialists aren't competitive against actual professional riders, but like what's the solution here? Force pro roadies to destroy everyone in qualifier events too (effectively making it harder for gravel specialists to qualify)?
@Richz2Күн бұрын
@@delayclose5012 Firstly gravel racers ARE Professional. How many times will Marianne Vos and Mathieu Van der Poel be wearing their Rainbow jersey? Once or twice maybe? I doubt many roadies would be allowed to take time off from their road schedule do race 5/10 gravel races. I think they enjoy racing gravel for fun. Also was this course really a gravel race?
@petesjkКүн бұрын
@@delayclose5012I understand where you’re coming from, but riders like Maddy never had a chance to win this race, so for all of her effort over the season, she has no chance to gain financially from this race, arguably the most publicized and broadcast European gravel race of the year. Many of the best American gravel riders didn’t even bother attending this race because they would lose money traveling for and riding in this race, and I can’t blame them. If you look at top finishers for this race, notice that their salaries combined are almost more than the rest of the field.
