Not to dismiss Pogačar's amazing season, but Mathieu van der Poel has had a few good ones as well. In 2010-2011, his win rate was an even 100%. However, it was 2019 which was his best year. Mountain biking: 10 wins from 12 starts. Cyclocross: 12 wins from 13 starts. Road: 11 wins from 31 starts including Amstel Gold, Tour of Britain, and Dwars door Vlaanderen. Talk about a long season!

If he had tried it and succeeded but then his form dropped the following year and he found it hard to regain, he might blame doing too much this year. However, if he gets sick or injured or his form takes a turn or the competition ups their game to where he can never try to do the triple, he will wish he would have at least tried it. Three years ago Si and Olie made a video about a road bike time trial in which Si had to average 370 watts to go 30 mph for ten miles in order to do 10 miles in 20 minutes. Pogi says that he can do 340 watts in zone 2 with a heart rate of 140 bpm. He can do this for 5 hours in training. This must be a huge advantage for him when decides to put in a hard effort. When everyone else is suffering he is having a good time. No one can go with him because they are already spent.

When it comes to someone being able to beat Pogacar’s accomplishments, the golden rule in sport is ‘never say never.’ I’m certain people thought we’d never see those old records broken, then it was Pogacar who ended up breaking them. We should appreciate the greatness on display now, but never forget that greatness in sport comes from overcoming challenges, and Pogacar’s dominance might be the crucible that forges the next great talent.

I'm pretty depressed at how the discourse has changed. Remember all the pressure on people like Bjarne Riis and others with a doping history being involved in cycling? It felt like there was real change. Yet nobody EVER mentions Mauro Gianetti on TV or in discussion about Pogacar, even though we see him hugging him after stage victories. The doping discussion died off a long time ago, even though riders are still getting popped. And yet we have a guy breaking records with the 'greatest season of all time' being managed by a guy with one of the dirtiest histories in all of cycling. Why is this? Have we all just given up caring, or is it because its bad for sponsors?

If you were on something today, you'd be winning by small margins, to make it look legitimate. But I was told by a weightlifter that athletes take a heart drug which allows them to train harder which then improves performance. They take it during training, not on the day of competition. But that information is available to all riders. So far, none of the riders have thrown any suspicion on him, and that is good enough for me. YES, by far. 5 "no"; 1 "probable"; 1 out and out "favorite". But he may have just raised his level and everything is now a "yes". Pogacar is a phenomenon and concern is can anyone compete with him? Vingegaard is most likely but even he at 100% probably 2nd best. As for Pidcock, INEOS aren't exactly setting world on fire last few years so can they afford to piss off one of their best riders? I can see him leaving and riding with a vengance for another team.

I find it strange that people are so excited by Pogacar's dominance. If he's going to steam-roller over everyone in any race that he chooses to be fully competitive in, where's the tension in watching it? It's like watching a thriller where it's patently obvious what's going to happen as soon as the opening credits roll...

So, the Ineos management team seem to be, instead of passing on their (formerly) winning ways from cycling to the new Man U project, rather importing the incompetence from Manchester onto the cycling team. That's got to rank up there with other recent huge surprises like Harry Kane not getting a league title with Bayern.

It probably is exactly the same as during Lance’s era, an era when practically the whole peloton was doping. The difference is that he’s much more tested than LA ever was, better tech, more frequent etc. So if he is taking PEDs then the products are currently legal, as far as WADA are concerned. What’s more, just like in LA’s era, every other top rider in the current peloton will likely be taking the same PEDs (foolish not to if they’re not on the WADA sanctions list) so it still makes Pog the stand out rider. The reason, certainly in my opinion, that LA was targeted and then made a pariah despite being only one of hundreds of dopers, is because he was a denier, a bully, a narcissist, a megalomaniac….or otheriwse known as a c*8t.

Honestly, he won the world road race by only 36 seconds... So he didn't crush his opponents... not even O'Connor... You don't need drugs to beat O'Connor by 36 seconds. He fought hard to win Milan- San Remo and failed; he tried to lose Vingegaard on the last mountain stage of the Tour, when Vingegaard was coming into his own, and couldn't. He did not win the Ardennes Monuments. I remember Gimondi winning Paris- Roubaix by almost 5 minutes, before the drug age. There are illusions here that Pogacar is untouchable. But if he's the most complete and best rider of his time, there's always been one.

Ryan would have owed Eli an apology, but that's where it would have ended (except perhaps for the Belgian press). Iserbyt reaction though was hot headed, petulant and over the top. Serious damage to his reputation as everyone saw his actions. Obviously his fan club will demur, but that is how the rest of the world will see it.
