6 years later and I just started. Just got myself a Cobra, added some extra stuff to it, bought some string lights with some extra Arx I had. Now I'm just building a little money up before I finally leave the starting beginner area. All I've done so far is deliveries, courier jobs, and some occasional buying and selling. I haven't started with combat or mining yet. Haven't explored a planet on land either. Hell, I've only landed on two planetside hubs so far. Still learning manual landing. And I gotta say, I'm enjoying it. Now, I'm not playing for hours upon hours at a time. I play, do a few delivered and stuff, then take a break. But I think that's the beauty of Elite. You can play for as little or as long as you want. It's still fun, despite the fact that you might just being doing basic delivery jobs.

"I know it doesn't matter to a lot of players, but it matters a lot to ME" Oh dear, if only more developers would take this approach instead of the "feed the COD fans with what they want, and give up on what WE want to make"...how different the gaming world would be. How many ruined games would be so much better...
@chemicalBR010 жыл бұрын
it matters a lot to me , that is why elite has always been one of my fave games of all time. (im an old C64 and amiga player of the originals) I can't wait till we can finally visit Sol because i just want to see it, fly around in an accurate representation of our home system and boggle my mind with how it fits into the vast galaxy, there doesn't have to be a fight every time you enter a system for a space game to be good and David Braben gets that amateur astronomer mentality. I think Elite will appeal more to the proper space geeks out there (like me) and not just the sci-fi action crowd. the exploration is the thing for me, I enjoy trading and traveling way more than I enjoy combat.
@ramjb10 жыл бұрын
chemicalBR0 I feel mostly like you. I love the idea of an accurate galaxy. And I just have to bow down to David Braben. With that statement he pretty much says "whoever doesn't like what we're doing can pretty much piss off, for we are making the game WE want, not the one that the legion of CoD minded gimme-inmediate-reward-or-i-will-cry noobs demand". That statement alone is already worth the price of the game. Instantaneously. I'm tired of seeing developers start a game with something in mind and end up delivering yet another dumbed down half arsed game that has nothing to do with what they initially proposed, only because they wanted to make it attractive to the masses of "casuals" who are too lazy to properly learn how to play a game before getting success with it. And that only because they think that that's the way to make money. As there are so many spoiled 14 year old brats mashing buttons in the internetz, you have to make the game suit them. Which means practically turning it into braindead fodder. Maybe someday else will realize that the masses of people who're tired as heck of games for the lazy-arsed and braindead also want games to play. And pay well for them. I think David Braben already knows, tho... and that's why I'm so happy :). BTW I think you can already visit SOL in Beta 3. Haven't done so yet myself (I'm too busy doing stuff elsewhere that I never find the time to do it), but when I checked it was inside the whilte bubble that it's supposed to represent the playable area of the galaxy... Damnit. Now I have to do it too. Even while I still have to earn enough money to get out of my lowly sidewinder :D
@after_midnight959210 жыл бұрын
I always imagined mr. Brookes pulling an “Angry Walter” on some the whining COD kid.
@chemicalBR09 жыл бұрын
yeah sol is inside the bubble but sadly is still not visitable (that's not even a real word is it :) . your FSD malfunctions if you try to jump to the system.there are quite a lot of unfinished systems inside that bubble that you can't get to. oh and if you wanna make cash fast head to Alrai (buy gold) sell at lp30-55) (buy superconductors for return visit) i've been using a cobra mkiii for that run (28 ton cargo) and make around 60 grand per trip. (i've made over a million creds the last few days just doing that) although you need over 250 grand just to buy that much gold in the 1st place :) oh and carrying that much valuable cargo brings you a fair bit off attention so be prepared for a lot of interdiction attempts by pirates.

I so wish I got this game when it was first launched on the Xbox One (which is my platform now), I was undecided but was in a game shop the other day and seen a used copy which someone traded in. I said to myself, 'Sod it' just by it and go for it and so glad I did. I got the Horizons Season Pass from the MS Store for only £8 as they were doing an offer. There is so much to catch up on but love the game and graphics and everything else they've done, it's biblically good and can't put it down again lol, every spare minute or hour I've got it on haha. How can you connect old days gamers, who were used to have perhaps the most entertaining and dreaming moments in their lives with games and machines of eighties and first nineties WITH the amazing graphics and performances of computers we have today WITHOUT loosing those exact feelings they still remember now? Elite Dangerous is the answer. For me, I have been waiting this new chapter since 30 years, the only game I haven't forgot from those ages.

I love this game, or shall I call it a simulator. It isn't perfect, but it's very good and super addicting. That's hard to explain because the game doesn't seem to have a lot going on in it, yet it has so much going on in it. There isn't constant action or things to do, but it is super immersive. I love how the game doesn't spell everything out for you, and it allows you to make your own mistakes and doesn't make excuses or say "sorry" when you put yourself in a bad situation. Space is unforgiving and I like that Frontier has added this feel.

I came into this series technically when the Betas were going on.. I had watched sooo soo much on the game.. It enthralled me completely.. I obviously couldn't play it at the time.. But Just seeing how it modeled a whole 1:1 size milkyway.. maybe even larger! It was soo cool.. It made me wanna explore places I would see outside.. I would go outside and look up at the night sky and I would literally point and be like "I wonder what that place is like".. I obviously found it impossible to find out that one dot in the sky lol.. But once I got my hands on the game in 2017 for PS.. It was the game I played even more than Minecraft.. Elite.. It makes you feel like an explorer.. Uncovering secrets of the galaxy like the Guardians and the Thargoids.. Or even Deeper mysteries like the lagrange clouds.. It is a fantastic game!.. And I know many people hate what has been added recently.. But I feel like this is a mistake that can be fixed.. Things can change overtime and I bet it will get better! Even if it takes a few years. I love this game undoubtedly.. I cant wait to explore more.. However there is one big change I hope they explore.. You know those 2 Magellanic Cloud galaxies? Imagine that being opened up to players to explore?! That is my honest hope for like.. a Final DLC. Just even more to explore lol. I know that is weird to say since there is still literally a whole galaxy that is still barely explored.. But thats my want. Anyway.. Time to get back into my Anaconda and explore the deepest parts of the galaxy! Have fun out there Commanders!

There should be an option, to enable/disable sound and video simulation, maybe on the functions tab. That is, if you turn off sound simulation, you'll only hear sounds that come from inside your ship, not from the exterior, and video simulation would be more useful in supercruise; if you go ftl, your field of view becomes 360º so if you turned off video simulation, you'd see ftl as it really is... I think it'd look cool
@dj94545gaming9 жыл бұрын
I really think there should be a third-person view while you fly, but it should be limited. When in third-person you should be centered on your ship and should have a very basic HUD, showing only the velocity of your craft. For other things you should have to use first person to dock or trade among other things.

That being said, according to the (technical) lore, these white dots are actually being drawn on the canopy in order to help pilots to orientate and to "feel" the speed and direction. Which they actually do quite well.

I'd be happy as you suggest if the player could set the density, If there was fewer i would not really notice but it's like it's snowing out there :)

The white 'dust' actually help me feel like I'm moving. Whereas without them it'd be very hard to get the sense of movement. Setting density isn't a bad idea though.

It's also needed to get a sense of scale. Without fog/particles everything would appear small.

It's a shame to see so many people posting bad reviews on Elite. "Oh, it's got too much grinding". Well that's what the game is about, am I wrong?
@MythicSuns7 жыл бұрын
funnily enough the original game (assuming that's not what you're talking about) got some bad reviews too, I don't think there's a single video game out there that doesn't have a minority of people who hate the game, though at least with Elite Dangerous it is a minority, not like No Man's Sky where there's a large majority

1:38 Michael Brookes. Sounds like he's not a fan of Iain M Banks. At least not "The Culture" novels Argghh! Not sure I can handle that. I would play a "Culture" game. In fact I just want to live in the Culture now... make it happen.. today... someone.

The sound effects are amazing. But still the flight is not real. Acceleration met be infinite, there is no atmosphere or drag in space, so, a "boos" would be a faster acceleration, but no speed limit. A truster, preferably on flight assist off, met be infinite. If i keep pushing pitch, it would rotate my ship faster and faster until i pass out because de G!!! Look on series Battlestar Galactica flights and fights... To reach a certain speed, only need a burst in trusters. Make it real! Please!!! This is the most closer game to reality we have so far, and is the prettiest on interface, sound fx, ships, design, etc. Don't nerf the most important things of it, just because the grand majority don't know how to flight in space (teach them). Fix this things... p.s.: And the best way to control a ship in space is not a thruster and a stick, but a Spacemouse pro (6 axis on left hand, could be only 3 axis, for translation) and a stick on right. There is not a better way to move in space, but the real movement, using bursts of thrust, and not a full speed stick towards (this is not a atmospheric plane)!!!

HOLD ON youre complaining about realism yet youre using a mouse to fly a ship and "there is not a better way to move in space"
@Climberfx7 жыл бұрын
Joystick Saitek, plus 6axis Spacemouse. Besides de "mouse" on name there is no mouse here. And the best way to move in space is with 6 axis.
@dixie_rekd96017 жыл бұрын
I know what a 3d mouse is :D but still . its not immersive like a true flight controller setup.
@Climberfx7 жыл бұрын
No man, you are playing a dogfight in a plane (that is no like what is in space). In real word a stick will not do what you need, and the flight will not be like that. But you can discuss what you wan't. I know what i'm saying. I will do no more replies to discuss that with you. And this is not a person thing, but a physics and vacuum thing. There is no flight like elite in space, and will not be,just because that is an arcade toy, a pretty one, but fake physics. No inertia, no incremental speed add infinitum. So long, bye!
@dixie_rekd96017 жыл бұрын
I know there is no drag in space they made some compromises for playability the physics of the space flight are wrong in many many ways; yes! there is indeed damping on the maximum speed when you are not in FSD or hypercruise this makes the game playable otherwise slowing down would take as long as speeding up did. in real physics flying faster than light is impossible... yet without that ability the game would be impossible.. including faster than light travel makes the game playable. using flight-assist to travel the direction you are moving is also not really a thing (though i think its possible), but you CAN turn this off in game and roll around as much as you want.... including a flight-assist mode makes the game playable. ...., but its also true that a flight control setup is the ideal and most immersive way of playing a space flight game a 3 axis stick with HAT controls, a decent throttle with extra control inputs and pedals for yaw is just intuitive..... the characters hands in the ship are on a stick and throttle ffs!!! you're complaining about the physics of a sci-fi game where travelling at hundreds or even thousands of times the speed of light is an every day occurrence and you're complaining because they added DRAG?! wtf man..

Two years late to the party, so can't even crash it... Regardless, "ship simulated sounds" is just a cheap excuse to make it more "immersive" for the hordes of Star Wars fans, which is obviously where all the money is at. Hardcore sci-fi fans that like more science and realistic simulation in their fiction is a marginalized minority - almost no money to be made. Very unfortunate that no one will ever try to fill in the gap between Star Wars flavored space shoot em ups and boring simulators of the aviation pilot variety, there's an eternal vacuum in the middle of that spectrum.
@MythicSuns7 жыл бұрын
funny thing is they could probably make the sounds more scientifically accurate and then give the player a toggle switch in the sound settings that says something like IMMERSION MODE ON/OFF, honestly I wouldn't mind seeing that, along with a an actual menu option to change the colour of the ships interface
