This is all great, but logically powerlifters should have always known that the highest top end for their sport is to have the highest hypertrophy and then convert that bigger muscle into the fastest most explosive muscle...I am glad Dave Tate is finally addressing this, its very intellectual to think this way about training and he did a great job

So he's saying in order to make your big lifts go up you need to implement more bodybuilding/hypertrophy training? Since there's a difference between working the movement and working the muscle.

I was somewhat confused when he said the 2 board press max was 92% of his raw bench max. wouldn't you be able to do more with the short range of motion?
@PJAGB15610 жыл бұрын
Maybe when he arched his back more he got extra lat involvement, possibly? I dont really know
@3terminatorgr9 жыл бұрын
+Darrell A Maybe the 2 board press was without gear
@jurjenbavelaar15586 жыл бұрын
Way late to the party, but maybe it's a paused variant?
@coachromigill5 жыл бұрын
He didn't say max. He said he lifted 92% (he chose to not go close to or over his max).
@L8dyJuStice4 жыл бұрын
Less stretch reflex off the board. From the pause it’s almost like a pin press. Plus if you are weaker in that particular range rather then off the chest or lock out then it can be a harder lift regardless of the distance it needs to travel

this sounds 100% opposite of Chad Smith's methodology of just training main lifts and very few accessory lifts if you are approaching a meet
@TheRobinL9 жыл бұрын
+Average Life Joe Dave Tate also recommending cutting down on all the accessory work when you are approaching a meet. I also think he is focus more on the accessory here because everyone focus and know how important the main movement are. But most of us forget a very impotent aspect, witch is the accessory.
@theylivewesee16749 жыл бұрын
robin L yea I also do a lot of assistance lifts because I don't compete and after a while only doing main lifts gets boring, same thing with oly lifts and I find doing ass. lifts like high pull in snatch really benefits your full snatch
@decathlete20008 жыл бұрын
+DimebagVision so oly lifts should not be done for increasing absolute strength(i.e. 1- 6 rep range)? should I use them as speed-power development(30- 50% of 1RM) in the 4- 8 rep range and execute the reps as fast as possible?
